Delhi Rally: Dalit Christians Demand Equal SC Rights

The All India Dalit Christian Rights Protection Committee (AIDCRPC) staged a "Chalo Delhi" national demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Monday, August 10, 2026. Demonstrators rallied to demand parliamentary recognition of Scheduled Caste (SC) status for Dalit Christians and called for immediate amendments to the discriminatory 1950 Presidential Order. Key demands included the prompt disposal of related Supreme Court cases and the immediate submission of the Justice Balakrishnan Commission report to Parliament.

Despite converting to Christianity to escape caste discrimination, Dalit Christians continue to face severe social marginalization and stigma in everyday life. Under the 1950 Order, conversion strips them of their official SC status, cutting off access to constitutional reservations in education, employment, and political representation. As a result, they suffer a double layer of disadvantage --- enduring persistent social caste biases while remaining excluded from vital affirmative action benefits meant for marginalized communities.
