KSO Kamjong Urges End to Economic Embargo, Ensure Healthcare

KAMJONG, August 12, 2026:  The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Kamjong District, has appealed to the Manipur Government to immediately lift what it described as an economic embargo affecting Kuki civilians in the district and restore equal access to healthcare at District Hospital, Kamjong.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the organisation said the economic embargo had continued for more than five months, severely affecting the lives and livelihoods of the general public, particularly patients and vulnerable sections.

The KSO further alleged that the District Hospital, described as the only hospital serving Kamjong Block, remains inaccessible to the Kuki community. It said denial of medical services on communal lines was contrary to the purpose of a public hospital and violated the basic right to health.

The organisation demanded that the government establish a separate hospital for the Kuki population at Chassad, citing the alleged lack of access to the existing district hospital.

The KSO also expressed concern over the impact on newborn children, stating that the ongoing situation has prevented some infants from receiving essential vaccinations and placed vulnerable patients at serious risk.

Holding the state government responsible for any loss of life resulting from denial of medical treatment and the continued economic embargo, the organisation urged the authorities to act immediately.

The KSO appealed to the District Administration and the Government of Manipur to lift the economic embargo and ensure non-discriminatory and equal access to healthcare for all citizens at District Hospital, Kamjong.

The organisation said it expected the competent authorities to act with urgency to uphold the rights to life, health and dignity of all communities in Kamjong District.
