Kuki CSOs Withdraw Ultimatum, Announce August 21 Rally

LAMKA, August 18, 2026: The Kuki civil society organisations (CSOs) have withdrawn the 48-hour ultimatum served to the District Administration, along with the proposed boycott and non-cooperation announced earlier over the firing incident within the premises of PC Nursing Home.

The decision was taken at a meeting held on Tuesday at the Kuki Inpi Churachandpur (KIC) office, where the Superintendent of Police (SP), Churachandpur, appeared and apologised for what the CSOs described as the unwarranted firing incident.

The Kuki CSOs also acknowledged the prompt and appropriate response of the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur, in addressing the incident.

However, as directed by the Kuki Inpi Manipur, the CSOs announced that a protest rally will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, to express the Kuki-Zo community’s deep pain, anguish and concern over what they described as perceived bias and selective actions by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against the community.

The organisations said the apparent unequal and selective application of law and investigative action by the NIA was “wholly unacceptable”. They alleged that while cases and incidents involving other communities appeared to receive comparatively limited attention, the NIA had adopted an aggressive approach towards the Kuki-Zo community.

The CSOs appealed to all sections of society to participate in the rally peacefully and in large numbers. Participants were urged to exercise restraint, maintain discipline and uphold the rule of law throughout the programme.

The joint statement was signed by Letpu Haokip, President, Kuki Inpi Churachandpur; Letkam Haokip, Chairman, Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Churachandpur; Lenminal Gangte, President, Kuki Students’ Organisation; Ngamhao Haokip, President, Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi, GHQ; Hathkholam Haokip, President, Kuki Women Union; and Ngaineikim Haokip, President, Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights, GHQ.
