Manipur: Student Bodies Demand Probe Into EMRS Food Neglect Case

IMPHAL, August 5, 2026: Six major student organisations in Manipur have strongly condemned the alleged deprivation of food provided to students at Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Tokpa village, near the Loktak Project area in Churachandpur district, and demanded immediate action against those responsible.

In a joint press release issued on August 4, the Maheiroi Lup-6—comprising the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK), and Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS)—urged the authorities to review the administration and functioning of the school.

The organisations called for a thorough legal inquiry against the school Principal, Warden, hostel management, and all others allegedly responsible for neglecting the welfare of students studying in Classes VI, VII and VIII.

The student bodies also appealed to the Government of Manipur and the Manipur Society for Tribal Educational Institutions (MSTEI) to safeguard the interests of underprivileged students and restore the trust placed in them by parents and guardians.

They further stressed that transparent school administration, accountability and a sound academic environment are essential to ensuring quality education and preventing similar incidents in the future.
