Meghalaya Congress Protests Proposed FCRA Amendment Bill

Shillong, 11 August 2026:  The Congress in Meghalaya held a protest rally against the proposed Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill.

Congress leader Vincent Pala described the proposed legislation as the “first attack after Independence” on churches and NGOs receiving foreign contributions.

He alleged that the amendment could adversely affect organisations dependent on foreign funding for their activities.

Congress workers and supporters raised concerns over the proposed changes and urged the government to reconsider the legislation.

The protest comes amid growing opposition from sections of civil society and religious organisations over the proposed FCRA amendments.
