Priyanka Gandhi Slams Media Over Parliamentary Deadlock

NEW DELHI — Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra lashed out at the press on 12 August 2026 when questioned about the ongoing stalemate in Parliament, turning the focus back on media coverage and government accountability.

"Should we also remain silent the way you [the media] do?" Gandhi Vadra said.

"Who do you think is responsible for this? Is the government not answerable to the public when students are subjected to lathi-charges, pellet guns, and severe force? Should we just sit quietly like you?" she added.

The ongoing parliamentary logjam stems from opposition-led protests demanding an official statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding alleged police excesses against student demonstrators across several states. Tensions escalated following student agitations over examination paper leaks and recruitment irregularities, where police allegedly used force, lathi-charges, and tear gas to disperse crowds. The Congress party and its allies have asserted that proceedings in Parliament will remain disrupted until the government formally addresses accountability for these actions on the floor of the House.
