Tokpa Naga village authority condemns armed attack, arson

KANGPOKPI, August 12, 2026: The Tokpa Naga Village Authority has strongly condemned the alleged armed attack and arson at Tokpa Naga village in Champhai Block of Kangpokpi district on August 11, 2026, which it said resulted in extensive damage to residential properties and the displacement of affected families.

In a press release issued on August 12, the village authority alleged that a group of armed persons wearing full camouflage uniforms and carrying sophisticated automatic weapons entered the village at around 9:30 pm.

According to the statement, the attackers allegedly opened indiscriminate fire and set fire to nine residential houses, one church and other properties.

The village authority further alleged that despite timely appeals and emergency requests from neighbouring villagers, CRPF personnel and Kangpokpi Police stationed near Kalapahar High School did not respond immediately.

It described the alleged delay as a serious concern and called for accountability over what it termed possible negligence and dereliction of duty in protecting civilian life and property.
