IMPHAL, Aug 26, 2026 — Security forces and Manipur Police have arrested at least 17 suspected insurgent cadres and recovered a large cache of firearms, ammunition and explosives in a series of operations across Manipur, according to police and security-force reports. On Wednesday, a combined team of Thoubal district police and 46 Assam Rifles arrested an alleged active cadre of the RPF/PLA, identified as Ningombam Punshiba Singh, 30, alias Nanao and Selungba , son of N. New SIM Rules Block Excess Mobile Connections

NEW DELHI  —  New SIM card rules came into effect in India on Monday, August 24, directing telecom operators to stop issuing mobile connections to customers who have reached the permitted limit. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked operators to identify customers holding the maximum number of SIM cards and inform them that additional connections cannot be issued. Initially, verification will be conducted on a post-facto basis, with any connection activated beyond the limit immediately suspended until the issue is resolved.
