The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has released over ₹900 crore to seven northeastern states under the central helicopter subsidy scheme, covering the financial years from 2015–16 to 2024–25, officials said on Monday (Nov 10).
According to officials, the subsidy aims to improve air connectivity to remote and inaccessible regions across the Northeast. The MHA administers the scheme to ensure faster travel, medical evacuations, and essential services in difficult terrain.
The beneficiary states include Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur. The funding is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and support critical transport needs in these states, many of which face challenging geographical conditions.
