Imphal, the 28th January, 2026
Thadou Stands Independent, Rejects KIM Apex Body Claim, Remains Neutral in Kuki-Naga Tensions
Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) issues this press statement to clarify its position in the interest of accuracy, civilian safety, and peaceful coexistence amid ongoing tensions in Manipur's hill areas.
Thadou Inpi Manipur is a civilian representative body of the Thadou people. It does not represent, align with, or act on behalf of any armed group, political organization, or military bloc.
TIM notes the Joint Press Statement issued by the United Naga Council (UNC) and the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) on 27th January, 2026, which reflects that Thadou Inpi Manipur is not a constituent or part of Kuki Inpi Manipur. TIM further clarifies that the apex body of Kuki Inpi Manipur does not include Thadou Inpi Manipur, and TIM is not a member at any level of KIM's organizational structure. No mandate has been given by TIM for such inclusion.
TIM appreciates the spirit of peace and dialogue expressed in the joint statement.
Thadou Inpi Manipur reiterates that the Thadou people are a distinct community but not Kuki, and are not part of ongoing ethnic tensions with any communities. Any portrayal of Thadou as Kuki, or otherwise, misrepresents TIM's position and is against the aspirations of the Thadou people.
Thadou Inpi Manipur rejects violence in all forms, including armed mobilization, intimidation, vandalism, arson, and road blockades that disrupt civilian life and freedom of movement. The primary concern of Thadou Inpi Manipur remains the protection of civilian life, dignity, and safe movement. TIM calls upon all parties to respect civilian spaces and uphold humanitarian principles.
Thadou Inpi Manipur remains open to constructive, respectful dialogue on peace and civilian welfare, provided it respects accurate representation, mutual consent, and the distinct identity of the Thadou people.
