Lamka, Feb 9, 2026: The Vaiphei People's Council (VPC) General Headquarters has strongly condemned a violent attack that took place on Sunday night, in which houses belonging to the Kuki-Zo community were reportedly assaulted and burned.
In a press release issued by VPC-GHQ on February 9, the VPC said the incident disrupted peace in the region and escalated from a minor scuffle that reportedly occurred on February 7 between intoxicated individuals from the Tangkhul and Kuki-Zo communities.
The VPC urged all concerned parties to refrain from communalising the issue and to resolve disputes through dialogue, customary practices, and lawful means. It appealed to law enforcement agencies to conduct an impartial investigation and take strict action against those responsible, irrespective of community affiliation.
The council also called upon community leaders, civil society organisations, youth, and student bodies to play a constructive role in restoring peace and promoting mutual understanding. Emphasising responsible journalism, the VPC appealed to the media to avoid inflammatory reporting that could worsen tensions.
Reiterating its commitment to peace and harmony, the VPC urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with efforts aimed at restoring normalcy in the affected areas.
