Ex-MLA Samuel Jendai Seeks Probe into Naga Guard's Death

Noney, July 29, 2026: Former Manipur MLA Samuel Jendai has strongly condemned the killing of Naga Village Guard Mr. Lanbimei Riamei, who reportedly lost his life during an exchange of fire involving a CRPF CoBRA team at Bitiang village in Noney district on 29 July.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Jendai described the incident as tragic and expressed deep concern over the loss of an innocent life. He said every citizen has the fundamental right to life and dignity and stressed that the use of force by security personnel must always be exercised with restraint, accountability and respect for human rights.

The former legislator said it was particularly disturbing that the incident reportedly involved a force entrusted with protecting lives and maintaining peace. He warned that such incidents could weaken public trust and undermine confidence in security institutions.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family and the wider community, Jendai urged the Government and the concerned authorities to order a fair, impartial, independent and time-bound investigation into the incident. He said transparency and accountability were essential to establish the truth, deliver justice and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

He also appealed to the authorities to ensure that all security operations are conducted professionally and in accordance with the Constitution and the rule of law. Calling on the public to remain calm and peaceful, Jendai said justice for Lanbimei Riamei would reaffirm the value of every human life and strengthen the collective commitment to peace, justice and the rule of law.
