Manipur Appoints New ST Commission Chairperson

Imphal, Aug. 7, 2026: The Government of Manipur has appointed Shri Thuigai Mathieu Rongmei as the new Chairperson of the Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes (MSCST) for a term of three years from the date he assumes office.

The appointment was notified through an Extraordinary issue of the Manipur Gazette published on Friday by the Tribal Affairs and Hills Department. According to the notification, the appointment has been made under Section 3(2)(a), read with Section 4(1), of the Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes Act, 2014.

The order, issued in the name of the Governor of Manipur, states that Shri Rongmei, son of Late Kahodin Rongmei of Noney, has been nominated to head the statutory commission. The notification further mentions that the appointment has been made with the approval of the competent authority. The order was signed by Daryal Juli Anal, Joint Secretary (Tribal Affairs & Hills), Government of Manipur.
