Imphal, August 3, 2026: The Government of Manipur has issued a circular strengthening security arrangements for convoy movement and petroleum transportation along National Highway-37 (NH-37), aiming to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of essential supplies.
According to the circular issued by Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo, Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), IGP Zone-III has been appointed as the Nodal Officer to oversee all security arrangements along the highway. The officer will be assisted by Sub-Nodal Police Commanders in each district and will review convoy movements regularly in coordination with all stakeholders.
The circular directs all District Superintendents of Police (SSPs) along the route to strictly follow the existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for convoy movement. Personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) deployed on duty are also to be briefed accordingly.
To curb illegal activities, district police have been instructed to conduct special drives against extortion, engage with the public, and create awareness about the legal consequences of supporting extortionists or other miscreants.
The order further stresses close coordination among the CAPF, Assam Rifles, Army, and State Police to ensure effective communication and security, particularly during convoy movements.
Special attention has been directed towards two vulnerable stretches of NH-37—Kambron to Sibilong and Makru to Old Kaiphundai. Dedicated police teams led by Gazetted Officers, along with CAPF and Assam Rifles personnel, will be stationed in these areas to prevent extortion, intimidation, abduction, and other unlawful activities.
