Run for Unity Draws Over 3,000 Participants in Lamka

Lamka, August 8, 2026 (DIO): The Churachandpur District Police organised the Run for Unity 2026 on Saturday under the theme, “Say No to Drugs, Choose Health, Choose Life, Together for a Safer, Stronger Society.” The 10K run was flagged off from Forest Gate Traffic Point, Tuibong, by Shri Krishna Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur, in the presence of Shri Gaurav Dogra, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur.

The run proceeded through Lanva, Gangpimual and Pearsonmun before taking Tipaimukh Road, rejoining Tedim Road and culminating at Peace Ground, Tuibong. Around 250 police personnel were deployed for security and traffic management, while water points and token counters were arranged along the route.

More than 3,000 people participated in the event, including officials and personnel from the District Administration, Police and ITBP, along with local residents. Around 80 per cent of the participants were aged between 16 and 23 years, highlighting strong youth participation. The youngest participant was 12 years old, while the oldest was 63-year-old Telsing Ngamkhokhai. Runners also joined from Kwakta, Sangaikot, Singngat and other parts of the district.

In the men’s category, Md Rahish Khan of Yairipok secured first position, followed by Benjamin Seiminthang Baite of Panglian in second and Khulakpam Mustakim of Kwakta in third. In the women’s category, Lhingdeikim Kipgen finished first, followed by Baby Veineiting in second and Hatneichan Haokip in third.

Cash prizes of ₹10,000, ₹7,000 and ₹5,000 were awarded to the first, second and third position holders respectively. The first 200 finishers received commemorative medals along with participation certificates, while certificates were presented to all participants at Peace Ground, Tuibong.

Speaking to Zogam Today, one participant described the run as an exciting experience, saying that the large participation brought joy and demonstrated a strong sense of unity and togetherness among the people.

The Run for Unity was aimed at promoting health and fitness, drug awareness, stronger police-public relations and youth participation in police recruitment. The event also reflected the community’s cooperation and collective spirit in promoting a healthier, safer and more united society.
