KANGPOKPI — The Taphou Kuki Village Authority has condemned the recent burning and destruction of a residential house belonging to a family from Taphou Kuki Village in Kangpokpi district.
In a press release dated August 24, the village authority described the incident as “highly deplorable, inhuman and unacceptable” and said the destruction of homes causes loss of property and livelihoods while creating fear and insecurity among affected families.
The authority appealed to individuals and groups to refrain from violence, arson and destruction of property, urging that disputes and grievances be addressed through peaceful dialogue and lawful means.
It also called on the district administration, police and other competent authorities to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and ensure that justice is delivered according to law.
The village authority further said it was giving the alleged culprits a 24-hour deadline to claim responsibility and resolve the matter according to Kuki customary law. It warned that failure to do so could result in the authority not being held responsible for any subsequent incident.
The authority appealed to all communities to maintain peace, exercise restraint and work towards restoring trust, security and peaceful coexistence.
