New Delhi, September 5, 2026: The Central Government has deferred house-listing operations for Census 2027 in Manipur until further declaration, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday.
The notification, issued by the Office of the Registrar General, India, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, amended an earlier notification dated January 7, 2026.
It stated that the words “except the State of Manipur till further declaration” would be inserted after the reference to house-listing operations being conducted in all States and Union Territories of India.
The amendment was issued under the powers conferred by Sections 3 and 17A of the Census Act, 1948, read with Rules 6A and 6D of the Census Rules, 1990.
The notification was signed by Mritunjay Kumar Narayan, Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner.
