Kolasib Destroys Drugs Worth ₹13.53 Crore in Major Action

Aizawl, September 2, 2026: Drugs worth ₹13.53 crore were destroyed in Kolasib on Wednesday following a meeting of the District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD).

The drug destruction was carried out under the leadership of Kolasib Deputy Commissioner and NCORD Chairperson H. Dolianbuaia. The seized narcotics included 1.767 kg of heroin and 12.5 kg of methamphetamine, with a combined weight of 14.267 kg. Rewards were also presented to personnel involved in drug seizure operations.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner H. Dolianbuaia said Kolasib's location along the interstate border makes it vulnerable to criminal activities and drug trafficking. He stressed that combating the drug menace requires continued cooperation not only from the government but also from voluntary organisations and the general public.

According to a police report presented at the meeting, 20 people have been arrested and 12 cases registered for drug-related offences so far this year. Authorities have seized 2.310 kg of heroin and 21 kg of methamphetamine, with their value estimated at more than ₹25 crore according to NCB rates.

The police also reported 15 cases related to alcohol, involving 20 arrests. The total value of the alcohol seized was estimated at ₹1.46 crore.

Meanwhile, awareness programmes on the harmful effects of drugs were conducted at 13 locations across Kolasib district during August, with 801 people participating.

The meeting also reviewed the current treatment situation. According to the TNT report presented at the meeting, 344 men and 77 women are currently undergoing treatment, of whom 388 have come from outside Kolasib district.
