Lamka, Feb 14, 2026: The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) has strongly condemned an attack on the residence of its spokesperson, Ginza Vualzong, in D. Phailien, Lamka, calling the incident a grave threat to personal safety and community unity.
According to an ITLF public appeal issued jointly by ITLF Chairman Letpu Haokip and General Secretary Elder Dr. Thangsuolien Sinate on Saturday, unidentified miscreants pelted stones at Vualzong's residence at around 1:00 am on Friday night before fleeing the scene. The forum stated that the incident was part of continued threats and acts of intimidation directed at Vualzong and his family, terming such actions "deeply alarming and wholly unacceptable."
ITLF said the attack not only endangered an individual household but also undermined the unity, integrity, and collective cause of the Kuki-Zo people. Vualzong, who is also a spokesperson of the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), has been a prominent voice in the people's movement since May 3, 2023, advocating democratic aspirations for a Separate Administration in the form of a Union Territory with legislature.
"Any attempt to target him is an attack on the collective voice and shared struggle of the Kuki-Zo people," the statement said, adding that his work has been dedicated to welfare, justice, and the political future of the community without malice toward any other tribal group.
The forum issued a strong appeal to the public to set aside personal differences and internal grievances, warning that personal vendettas and intimidation have no place in a people's movement founded on sacrifice, unity, and justice.
"At this critical juncture, we urge all sections of society to exercise restraint, wisdom, and a heightened sense of collective responsibility," ITLF said, cautioning against internal divisions that could weaken common purpose.

Senapati, Feb 13, 2026: In a major anti-drug operation, security forces along with an Executive Magistrate destroyed approximately six acres of illegal poppy plantation at Ngatan Hill range under Senapati Police Station and adjoining areas of Kangpokpi district on Thursday.
According to official sources, the joint team carried out the destruction drive as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal cultivation of poppy in the hill districts. The plantation, spread across nearly six acres, was completely uprooted and destroyed during the operation.
During the drive, eight makeshift huts set up at the plantation sites were also burnt and dismantled. Security personnel further destroyed several items found at the spot, including three bags of fertilizers, fifteen bags of salt, four bundles of irrigation pipes, and four spray pumps used for cultivation.
One individual identified as Gun Bahadur Rai (59), a resident of Thulochour/Tapon Village, Irang Part II, T. Waichong, was found present at the poppy field during the operation and has been arrested. He has been taken into custody for further legal proceedings.
Authorities stated that such operations will continue in order to eliminate illegal poppy cultivation and prevent drug-related activities in the region.

The declared position of the Nagas in Manipur on the ethnic conflict that had engulfed the state of Manipur since 3rd May, 2023 has been "neutrality," without fear or favour of either the Meiteis and the Kuki-Zo-Hmar, in the interest of peace and restoration of normalcy. This stands unchanged.
On the eve of Lui-Ngai-Ni 2026, the UNC is aggrieved by the outbreak of violence attack on one Mr. Starling Shimray of Shakarphung by a group of Kuki youths on the evening of 7th February, 2026, which triggered a wave of unrest in Litan, Ukhrul, Manipur, resulting in ugly violence, burning of houses and loss of properties belonging to both the Naga and Kuki communities and its unresolved continuation to this day. We also take strong exception to the act of violence, attack, and torching of the house of Mr. Azan Abonmai in the wee hours of February 9, 2026, at K. Lungwiram village. The UNC is mindful of the current situation in Litan and K. Lungwiram, which must be resolved and not allowed to further spread, fester and worsen.
We are concerned about the open presence of Kuki militants in full uniforms and sophisticated arms who have fired volleys of bullets creating fear and terror under the very nose of the Indian Security forces who are also accused of facilitating the Kuki armed arsonists in burning down Naga houses and properties at Litan.
Both the instant incidents boils down to the issue of land ownership. UNC is committed to long term solution for peace and justice and will continue to explore and engage for resolution. However, we will not allow our history, culture, land, and identity to be threatened. We will not compromise on our rights and interests and any further aggression will have to be met with resolute actions. We appeal to all parties to respect the rights and dignity of the Nagas and to work together with us towards peaceful coexistence with mutual respect.
In the midst of the vitiated environment highlighted above, the Lui-Ngai-Ni Seed Sowing festival of the Nagas in Manipur will be celebrated at Ukhrul on the 15th of February, 2026. This festival is not mere festivities and merry making. Lui-Ngai-Ni will renew the sowing of the seeds of fraternity and love within the Naga family and of mutual respect with their neighbors. The festival will once again reaffirm the wisdom filled values of our forefathers as the Nagas commit themselves to changes of improvement, progress and development in their collective lives and usher in an era of harmony, prosperity and good will. It will be observed and celebrated with due solemnity and prayerful minds.
On the eve of this festival, we seek the goodwill, understanding and participation of all for a meaningful and restorative celebration of Lui-Ngai-Ni 2026.
