Address by Sunil Deodhar, National president My Home India

Shri Sunil Deodhar, conveyor My Home India, shared his experiences of a long stay in North East India. The prevailing issues of lack of infrastructure, extreme poverty, issues of insurgency, lapsing governance structures, failing education and health facilities, and the feeling of ‘alienation’ felt by North East Indian residents residing in other parts of the country, inspired him to work towards strengthening bonds between North East and the rest of India. He shared about the incident of outrage as a reaction to incidents against North East residents in MP in 1991, when the newspapers of North East had reported it ‘action of Indians against the Nagas’. Things have changed since then and more needs to be done to bind all of us with an eternal fraternal bond.

He also shared the works done by My Home India towards rehabilitation of victims of human trafficking. My Home India has a helpline which helps residents of North East, staying in other parts of India, in any time of crisis. Today, the literacy rate stands at 67 percent as against the national average of 74 percent and in enrolment ratio in higher education, Arunachal has crossed the national average of 19 percent and stands at 23 percent. Worth mentioning is the transition rate from school to college level which stands close to 90 percent in Arunachal, which is way higher than the national average.
