Today, shortly after 9:30 a.m., when most inmates of the Litan Sareikhong Relief Camp had left for work—leaving behind only children, women, and the elderly—Meitei MLA Y. Khemchand arrived at the camp unannounced, accompanied by several BJP workers. Originally scheduled to visit Kamjong, the MLA instead used the absence of the majority and other responsible inmates to make an uninvited stop, taking photographs with unsuspecting children before quickly departing.
Later, and unfortunately, certain valley-based media houses used this incident to advance the MLA's personal interests and portray an impression that peace has been restored. Worse still, they merged two unrelated events—the MLA's uninvited visit and an independent journalist's interview with an IDP inmate—to falsely suggest an interaction between the MLA and the camp residents. Such misrepresentation is highly unethical, and we urge these media outlets to stop these practices and uphold journalistic integrity.
The Kuki Inpi Ukhrul, KSO-Ukhrul, the Village Authority, and the Youth Club of Litan Sareikhong were neither informed of nor involved in this abrupt visit. We do not welcome such calculated and opportunistic actions aimed at gaining visibility amidst the ongoing turmoil faced by the people of Manipur. We firmly distance ourselves from this episode and urge all leaders to act responsibly, transparently, and with genuine concern during this sensitive time.
