Lamka, Jan 26, 2026: The Hmar Students' Association (HSA), General Headquarters, has strongly objected to the conferment of a gallantry award on a CRPF officer, stating that the award is linked to an operation connected with the killing of 10 Hmar youths in the Borobekra area of Jiribam district, Manipur, on November 11, 2024.
In a press release issued on Monday, the HSA said the incident is part of matters arising from the Manipur conflict that are currently pending before the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. The student body expressed serious concern over the timing of the award, noting that the case remains sub judice.
The association described the decision as "highly inappropriate and deeply troubling," arguing that granting such recognition while judicial proceedings are still ongoing undermines the sensitivity of the issue. According to the HSA, the move raises questions about fairness, accountability, and respect for due legal process.
The HSA further condemned what it termed the premature conferment of awards or honours in conflict-related situations, especially those directly linked to incidents under judicial review.
It urged the concerned authorities to exercise restraint and ensure that no such recognition is given until all legal proceedings are fully, fairly, and impartially concluded.
