Time: 3 pm onwards
What will the speakers talk about: Environmentalists and grassroot people from different states of India like Karnataka, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Rajasthan are coming to Delhi to highlight how India’s natural ecosystems are under grave threat. The speakers will also release a letter to the media that citizens and civil society groups across the country are sending to the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India (CJI) and express their serious concerns on the recent oral remarks made in court by the CJI on 11 May 2026 regarding the right of citizens to question irregularities in projects negatively impacting natural ecosystems, their livelihoods and right to life. The comments risk casting doubts on the legitimacy of bona fide public interest litigations asking for proper environmental scrutiny while portraying the litigants as a suspect constituency rather than as participants in a constitutional democracy performing their duty as law abiding citizens. Speakers will highlight the content of the letter sent to the CJI along with demands of the citizens.
