From Systemic Neglect to Visionary Campus Leadership

FOR years, higher education in our region has suffered silently under the heavy weight of administrative complacency and a severe lack of public accountability. A stark reminder of this institutional decay recently emerged through a detailed, drafted Right to Information (RTI) application concerning a former Associate Professor. The document exposes a deeply troubling period between 2006 and 2012, targeting hidden records of unauthorized foreign travels to the USA and Canada, alongside completely missing leave permissions. While this prolonged absence from duty and subsequent court battles represent a direct betrayal of our students’ academic trust, it also highlights a serious legal breach that must be met with strict accountability. Teachers who abandon their classrooms for years to live abroad without official sanction violate the law and actively derail the future of our youth. This culture of absenteeism has long crippled our state colleges, leaving departments hollowed out while the individuals responsible escape consequences. It is high time the government takes firm action to penalize such evasion and restore institutional integrity.

Yet, just as hope seemed to fade, a remarkable transformation at Churachandpur Government College (Autonomous) proved that visionary leadership can rewrite an institution’s fate in mere days. Taking charge on 18 May 2026 due to the regular principal’s medical leave, Mr. Ginzamang T. Zomi has initiated a massive, unprecedented wave of student-friendly and forward-looking reforms. From introducing free campus-wide Wi-Fi connectivity and installing a large-capacity RO drinking water system to completely redesigning the college website, his dynamic energy has breathed new life into the campus. He has quickly eased the financial burden on families by abolishing unfair identity card fees and granting free admission to student union secretaries. Physical infrastructure is also seeing rapid restoration, featuring a new 340-foot deep borewell, repaired science laboratories, and new flagpoles. Most notably, he has submitted strategic proposals for new postgraduate courses in Botany and Zoology, alongside vital facilitation centres to support displaced students during the current regional crisis.

What Mr. Zomi has accomplished in a fleeting few weeks is nothing short of an administrative miracle. By prioritizing transparent governance, raising teacher remuneration for script evaluation, and providing startup grants for college clubs, he has shown what happens when an educator genuinely puts the community first. While unaccountable figures from the past dragged the education system down through chronic absenteeism and legal evasion, this outstanding leader has single-handedly restored pride, order, and hope to the college. His unwavering commitment to welfare and institutional growth sets a bright new benchmark for higher education across the whole region. We highly appreciate and applaud Mr. Ginzamang T. Zomi for his brilliant, selfless, and historic initiatives that have successfully turned a struggling college into a thriving sanctuary of learning. His stellar achievements prove that fixing our broken educational framework does not require decades; it simply requires a leader with true dedication, honesty, courage, and an unconditional love for the students.
