Delhi Police Seeks Closure of 57 Metro Stations Amid Protests

NEW DELHI, October 10, 2026: Delhi Police has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to close the entry and exit gates of 57 metro stations amid proposed protests in the national capital on October 10, citing concerns over possible crowd movement towards sensitive locations.

In a letter dated October 8, 2026, Joint Commissioner of Police, Transport Range, Rajneesh Gupta, IPS, requested DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar to issue necessary directions to concerned officials to implement appropriate security measures.

According to the letter, the entry and exit gates of the identified metro stations may be closed from 9 pm on October 9, continuing through October 10, until the situation normalises. The police also suggested that the frequency of metro trains passing through the listed stations could be reduced.

The advisory cites proposed protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations in Delhi, along with the possibility of large and unruly crowds moving towards sensitive areas.

The 57 stations listed in the letter include Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, ITO, Kashmere Gate, Supreme Court, INA, Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Shaheed Sthal, Rithala, Rohini East and Rohini West, among others.

The letter also includes stations across several parts of Delhi, including central, south, north and east Delhi.

Delhi Metro Police control room numbers provided in the advisory are 22183903, 8745001709 and 6828400576.

Passengers are advised to check official DMRC announcements and service updates before travelling, as station access restrictions and train operations may change depending on the security situation.

Note: The police letter requests station-gate closures and possible reductions in train frequency. It does not, by itself, confirm that all 57 stations were actually closed or that the measures were implemented.
