KSO Kamjong Condemns Killing of Kuki Woman at Chassad

KAMJONG, 10 October 2026: The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Kamjong District, has strongly condemned the alleged killing of a Kuki woman by Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel at Chassad village in Kamjong district, Manipur, and demanded immediate legal action, an independent inquiry and justice for the bereaved family.

In a press statement issued by KSO Kamjong District on 10 October 2026, the organisation said the incident occurred on the night of 9 October 2026 at the teachers’ quarters of Chassad Primary School, where IRB personnel were temporarily stationed.

The KSO expressed outrage over what it described as a cold-blooded and barbaric act committed by state security personnel.

According to the organisation, several groups of IRB personnel allegedly attempted to forcibly disperse and remove Chassad Village Guards from their legitimate posts. The KSO said these guards had been defending their ancestral village and protecting their community.

The organisation further alleged that the personnel involved were militants of the NSCN (IM) who had infiltrated the state force to carry out actions against the Kuki community. These allegations have been made by the KSO in its statement.

Woman killed while defending village guards, says KSO

The KSO stated that when women from Chassad came forward to defend the village guards against the alleged aggression of the security personnel, the IRB personnel opened fire on the unarmed women in what it described as a cowardly, inhumane and indiscriminate attack.

The firing reportedly resulted in the death of Mrs Domkhonei Touthang, wife of Mr Lallenmang Touthang and a resident of Chassad village.

Describing the incident as more than a murder, the organisation said it represented a direct assault on the dignity, life and existence of the Kuki people.

KSO lists three major concerns

The KSO Kamjong District identified three serious concerns arising from the incident:

  1. Human rights violation: The organisation described the killing as a gross violation of human rights and an alleged extrajudicial killing.

  2. Alleged infiltration of state forces: It said the incident raised serious concerns about the alleged misuse and infiltration of state forces by radical elements to persecute the Kuki people.

  3. Threat to village security: The organisation alleged that the attempt to remove the village guards was a deliberate effort to disarm and destabilise Kuki villages, leaving residents vulnerable to attacks.

Four demands for immediate action

The KSO called on the authorities to take the following measures:

  1. Register an FIR immediately and arrest all IRB personnel allegedly involved in the killing.

  2. Order a high-level independent inquiry by the Central Government into the alleged infiltration of NSCN (IM) cadres into the Manipur IRB.

  3. Provide immediate ex-gratia assistance and justice to the family of the deceased woman.

  4. Withdraw the alleged biased state forces from the area.

The organisation also questioned the legal grounds and authority under which IRB personnel allegedly opened fire on and killed an unarmed Kuki woman.

Warning that justice must be delivered without delay, the KSO said it would be compelled to launch various forms of democratic agitation in collaboration with Kuki civil society organisations in Kamjong district if the authorities failed to act promptly.

KSO expresses solidarity with bereaved family

The organisation expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and the people of Chassad during what it described as a painful period of grief.

“The blood of our innocent mother will not go in vain,” the statement said.

The allegations against the IRB personnel and the claims regarding alleged infiltration remain those of the KSO as stated in its press release. An independent investigation would be necessary to establish the circumstances of the incident and determine individual responsibility.
