Kuki Baptist Church condemns killings and arson in Manipur

LAMKA, October 10, 2026: The Kuki Baptist Convention (KBC) has expressed deep anguish and vehement condemnation regarding the killings of two innocent civilians and the widespread burning of homes in Chassad village, situated in the Kamjong District of Manipur.

According to the statement signed by KBC General Secretary Rev. Dr Letkhothang Haokip, the first victim, Mrs Domkhonei Touthang—wife of Mr Lallenmang Touthang and a mother of five—was killed on the evening of 9 October 2026, allegedly by armed personnel. Barely a day later, on the morning of 10 October, Mr Michael Ngamminlen Haokip, son of Mr Paothang Haokip, was also shot dead in the same village by armed militants. During these attacks, several residential homes belonging to villagers were indiscriminately burned down. Both victims were active, devout members of the KBC Central Church Chassad (KBC Gambih No. 17).

The church organization reported that Chassad has faced ongoing threats and intimidation from armed militants and neighbouring villages. The KBC highlighted grave concerns that personnel entrusted with law enforcement and civilian protection appear to be implicated in acts of brutality, severely eroding public trust in state agencies.

In its appeal, the KBC urged government authorities to take full responsibility for the situation, order an immediate high-level impartial inquiry, bring all perpetrators to justice, and deliver comprehensive security to Chassad’s residents. Offering solidarity and prayers to the bereaved families, the church called on all parties to maintain peace and seek justice through non-violent means as regional tensions continue to escalate.
