Kuki-Zo Council Extends Ultimatum Deadline to Oct 15 Amid Rising Tensions

LAMKA, October 12, 2026: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has extended the deadline of its ultimatum to October 15, 2026, from the original deadline of October 10, 2026, citing ongoing discussions and engagements with the government.

In a press release issued by Ginza Vualzong, spokesperson and secretary of Information and Publicity of the Kuki-Zo Council on October 12, the Council expressed grave concern over the reported killings of Mrs Domkhonei Touthang on October 9, allegedly by personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), and Mr Ngamminlen Haokip on October 10, reportedly by cadres of the NSCN-IM.

The Council said the incidents had further heightened tensions and deepened the sense of insecurity among the Kuki-Zo people.

Explaining the extension, the KZC said the additional time was intended to allow further dialogue with the government. However, it clarified that the decision should not be interpreted as a retreat from its position or a weakening of its resolve.

The Council reiterated its commitment to pursuing a meaningful resolution through dialogue while remaining firm on its demands for justice, security and accountability.

The KZC urged both the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to treat the matter with utmost seriousness and take concrete, credible and time-bound measures to address its concerns before the revised deadline.

It also called on the two governments to give due consideration to the list of demands previously submitted by the Council and take appropriate steps towards their fulfilment.

The Council said it expected a meaningful and positive response that would reflect the seriousness of the situation and address the legitimate concerns of the Kuki-Zo people.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the rights, security and interests of the community, the KZC stated that its subsequent course of action would depend on the government's response and developments on the ground.
