Kuki-Zo Women’s Forum Condemns Killing of Mother of Five

NEW DELHI, 10 October 2026: The Kuki-Zo Women’s Forum, Delhi and NCR (KZWFD), has strongly condemned the killing of Pi Domkhonei Touthang, a mother of five, and called for an impartial investigation, accountability and protection for vulnerable civilians amid the ongoing conflict in Manipur.

In a condemnation statement issued by KZWFD on 9 October 2026, the Forum said Pi Domkhonei Touthang, wife of Pu Lallenmang Touthang, reportedly died at 9.40 pm on 9 October. She was the mother of three sons and two daughters.

According to information received by the Forum, the alleged perpetrators have been identified as members of the combined armed Tangkhul groups, including the IRB and NSCN-IM. The Forum called for an impartial investigation to establish the facts and ensure accountability.

Expressing deep anguish over what it described as another devastating loss of a Kuki-Zo woman, the Forum strongly condemned the killing of women and civilians. It reiterated that every woman’s life is precious and that no armed group or individual has the right to take a life with impunity.

The Forum further expressed concern over the continued vulnerability of Kuki-Zo civilians, highlighting the threats to their safety, dignity and fundamental right to life. It warned that such incidents must not be allowed to become another forgotten tragedy in the ongoing conflict in Manipur.

Four demands for justice and civilian protection

The Kuki-Zo Women’s Forum urged the concerned authorities and security agencies to take four key measures:

  1. Ensure an impartial and time-bound investigation: Establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify all those responsible.

  2. Bring the perpetrators to justice: Ensure that those responsible are prosecuted in accordance with the law, without discrimination or selective accountability.

  3. Protect vulnerable civilians: Guarantee the safety of Kuki-Zo women, children and other vulnerable civilians, particularly in areas exposed to continuing threats and violence.

  4. Support the bereaved family: Provide necessary humanitarian, psychological and financial assistance to the family, especially the five children who have lost their mother.

Calls for an end to violence and impunity

The Forum extended its heartfelt condolences to Pu Lallenmang Touthang and the entire bereaved family, expressing solidarity with them during their time of grief.

Emphasising the urgent need to end the bloodshed, the Forum stated that the killing of women and unarmed civilians must never be normalised. It added that silence and impunity cannot be the answer to the suffering of the people.

The statement concluded with a call for justice for Pi Domkhonei Touthang and for Kuki-Zo women and civilians, urging the authorities to protect lives, end violence and ensure accountability.
