Lamka, April 8: The United Kuki National Army (UKNA) has denied any involvement in the recent attack on civilians at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district, calling the allegations baseless and misleading. In a clarification statement, UKNA said the claims linking the group to the incident are unfounded and appear to be an attempt to misattribute blame in an already tense situation. Book: Manipur in Peril ~ Michael Lamjathang Thadou
Preface This book uncovers a hidden truth and provides a rigorously researched account of the rise of Kuki supremacist ideology, its violent campaigns, and the manipulation of identity politics that have led to the marginalisation and persecution of the Thadou community in Manipur. Drawing on historical, political, and ethnographic evidence, it exposes how the creation of the “Any Kuki Tribes” (AKT) category, coupled with the consolidation of Kuki militant and political networks, has destabilised Manipur’s plural society and threatened the survival of its indigenous peoples. MEDIA RELEASE
Imphal, the 7th April, 2027
The 8th State-Level Hun-Thadou Cultural Festival 2026, under the theme “Upholding Our Identity, Shaping Our Destiny,” was held in a restricted form today in Imphal following the brutal killing of two innocent children—a five-year-old boy and a five-month-old baby girl—by suspected Kuki terrorists in Tronglaobi, Bishnupur district, in the early hours of April 7. In response to this heinous act of terrorism, all live streaming, concert, and entertainment programmes were cancelled. What should have been a celebration of identity was reduced to a day of mourning, anger, and justified outrage.
