According to Manipur Police, an FIR has been registered in connection with the indiscriminate firing allegedly carried out by Kuki armed groups at Torbung on Tuesday night (16 Dec 2025). Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following the firing, security has been significantly beefed up in and around the area. Joint security forces have launched intensive combing operations and area domination exercises to ensure public safety and prevent any further disturbance.
Senior police officials, including the concerned Deputy Inspector General (DIG), along with other senior officers, visited the site of the incident and reviewed the prevailing law-and-order situation on the ground.
During extensive combing operations conducted in the Kangvai area, security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition. The seized items include one long-range improvised pumpi, four medium-range improvised pumpis, one medium-range barrel-blasted improvised pumpi, one improvised explosive device (IED) weighing approximately three kilograms, one single-barrel firearm, and seventeen empty cartridge cases of different calibers.
Manipur Police stated that the recovered IED was safely disposed of by the Bomb Disposal Squad following standard safety procedures. Security in the area remains tight and under strict surveillance.
Police officials have assured that the situation is under control and appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with security forces.
