NONEY, July 2, 2026: Kuki Inpi Jiribam, Tamenglong and Noney (JTN) has strongly condemned the alleged attack on Leikot Kuki Village in Noney district, Manipur, describing it as an unprovoked act of violence against innocent civilians.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the apex body alleged that suspected NSCN-IM militants launched the attack at around 5:00 a.m. on July 2. According to the organisation, local village volunteers attempted to defend the village using their limited resources and licensed single-barrel firearms. However, the attackers were reportedly armed with automatic weapons and mortar shells, forcing the volunteers to withdraw. The release further claimed that Leikot Kuki Village was subsequently set on fire and suffered extensive damage.
Describing the incident as a serious threat to peace and security in the region, Kuki Inpi JTN said such attacks on vulnerable villages are unacceptable and deserve strong condemnation from all sections of society. The organisation also questioned the adequacy of security arrangements in vulnerable areas of Noney district, stating that the government has a fundamental responsibility to protect civilians.
The body appealed to the Central Government, the Government of Manipur, and concerned authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, identify those responsible, ensure justice for the victims, and strengthen security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Kuki Inpi JTN also warned that failure to address the grievances of the affected people and bring the perpetrators to justice could further worsen the prevailing situation. It reaffirmed its solidarity with the residents of Leikot Kuki Village and pledged its continued commitment to safeguarding the rights, security, and dignity of the Kuki people.
