KWOHR Calls for Sit-In Over Lenminsang's Death (50)

KWOHR Calls for Public Participation and Media Coverage
of Sit-In Protest Demanding Justice for Lenminsang Haokip

The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) expresses its deep concern over the alleged extrajudicial killing of Mr. Lenminsang Haokip, which reportedly occurred on 16th June 2026 during a security forces operation at North Songkong Village, Churachandpur District, Manipur.

According to eyewitness accounts and information received from local residents, Mr. Lenminsang Haokip, a resident of Kolchung Village, was an unarmed civilian who was at his residence due to medical reasons and had no involvement in any armed activity. During the operation, amid reported drone bombing and mortar attacks, he allegedly came out of his house in fear and was pursued and shot at close range by security personnel despite posing no threat. It has further been alleged that his body was dressed in camouflage clothing and portrayed as that of a militant. These allegations raise serious concerns that warrant an independent, impartial, and transparent investigation.

KWOHR believes that every allegation of an unlawful killing must be investigated in accordance with the Constitution, the rule of law, and India's human rights obligations. Justice, accountability, and transparency are essential to uphold the dignity of every citizen and maintain public confidence in the justice system.

To collectively raise our voice for truth and justice, KWOHR is organizing a peaceful Sit-In Protest under the theme:

"Sit-In Protest Against the Alleged Extrajudicial Killing of Lenminsang Haokip: We Demand Justice"

Date: 3rd July 2026 (Friday)

Time: 11:00 AM onwards

Venue: Wall of Remembrance, Tuibong

KWOHR warmly invites all civil society organisations, women's organisations, student bodies, church leaders, youth organisations, human rights defenders, and all justice-loving citizens to participate in this peaceful democratic protest.

We also extend a special invitation to all print, electronic, and digital media, journalists, photographers, and independent media professionals to cover the event and help bring public attention to the call for truth, justice, accountability, and respect for human rights.
