LAMKA, October 11, 2026: : The Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) has rejected allegations made by former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh regarding the deadly ambush near TM Kasom Litan in Ukhrul district, describing his statements as “reckless, defamatory and inflammatory”.
In an official press rejoinder on 11 October 2026, the KRA accused Biren Singh of making premature public allegations before an independent forensic investigation into the incident had begun. The organisation claimed that his statements were politically motivated and failed to reflect the ground realities in Manipur.
The controversy centres on the death of Sandeep Rai, a member of the Gorkha/Nepali community, who was reportedly the victim of the ambush near TM Kasom. The KRA categorically denied targeting neutral minority communities, including the Gorkha/Nepali community to which Rai belonged.
The organisation further alleged that the accusations were intended to heighten ethnic tensions, divert attention from state-backed actors allegedly operating in the hill districts, and create public support for further military action against Kuki-Zo villages.
Criticising the previous state administration, the KRA claimed that greater attention had been given to responding to online criticism than to resolving the prolonged conflict in Manipur. It also accused politically influential individuals of using social media campaigns to gain political advantage from civilian suffering.
The KRA has called for an immediate, impartial inquiry at the central level into the TM Kasom incident. It urged political figures to stop spreading what it described as misleading propaganda and to allow an independent investigation to establish the facts.
The allegations and counterclaims remain matters requiring independent verification. The outcome of an impartial investigation would be crucial to establishing responsibility for the incident.
