ITLF condemns Imphal Free Press for its fake report

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) strongly condemns the Imphal Free Press (IFP) newspaper for its fake report about gunfights in tribal areas of Manipur on Sunday.

IFP has turned into a propaganda machine for radical Meiteis during the conflict as it has no hesitation in publishing not just biased stories but concocted lies, a far cry from its stated purpose of providing an “unbiased public service”.

The report on Sunday talks about a “deadly clash” between Kuki and Paite militants in Churachandpur (Lamka) and Sangaikot, where “guns and snipers” were used during street battles in civilian areas. This is not the first time that IFP has published such fake stories.

It ran a similar news item in June about fighting between ZRA and Kuki militants in Chiengkonpang, Lamka. Needless to say, such “news” is totally fictional.

The Paites, Kukis and many other tribes work together under ITLF, and fake propaganda from the Meitei community will not lead to fractures within the Kuki-Zo tribal community.

NSCN (IM) Yaruiwo greets Nagas on 76th Naga Independence Day

Dimapur, 13 August: President of Government of People’s Republic of Nagalim, Q Tuccu today said that August 14 is going to be a momentous occasion to remind the Nagas “who we are as people and as a nation”, adding it is the day when Nagas asserted their Independence.

On the eve of Naga Independence Day, the Yaruiwo, in his message said Nagas have completed 76 years ever since Naga independence was declared on August 14, 1947 and it marks the day when Nagas took decision to freely determine their political status and pursue their economic, social and cultural development as provided by the UN Resolution and reshape their political destiny.

“We have come a long way to uphold our sovereign identity as a nation”, he stated.

On this day, Tuccu also saluted the freedom fighters who gave the courage to face the situation to carry on with their struggle to defend their political identity as independent nation. “Our freedom fighters have the heart to speak up against the British Government and British India Government about the political rights of the Nagas as sovereign people”, he added.

The NSCN (IM) leader further stated, “Our liberation movement was based on the principles of truth and that has been our source of strength throughout. It was a struggle for human rights and dignity”” he added.

He also bowed to Mahatma Gandhi who had said, “Nagas have every right to be independent” and said Nagas are heavily indebted to him for his courage to stand up for the historical and political rights of the Nagas.

Tuccu extended happy Independence Day greetings to all Nagas and urged them to remain faithful and loyal to the motherland.
