Imphal, Dec 18, 2025: The Government of Manipur has declared the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology at Churachandpur Medical College (CMC) as a Medico-Legal Centre to handle all medico-legal cases in the state.
The notification, issued by the Home Department, states that the Medico-Legal Centre will have jurisdiction over Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts, including adjoining areas. The centre will become functional with immediate effect, following approval from the Competent Authority.
The order is signed by H. Balkrisna Singh, Additional Secretary (Home), Government of Manipur.
The establishment of the Medico-Legal Centre is expected to streamline forensic investigations and improve handling of medico-legal cases in the region, providing a dedicated facility for post-mortem examinations, evidence collection, and expert testimony in legal proceedings. Authorities believe this will enhance justice delivery and public health services in the affected districts.
Officials from various departments, including the Director General of Police and Health Commissioner, have been informed to ensure smooth implementation and coordination with the new centre.
