Ex-MLA Samuel Jendai Seeks Probe into Naga Guard's Death

Noney, July 29, 2026: Former Manipur MLA Samuel Jendai has strongly condemned the killing of Naga Village Guard Mr. Lanbimei Riamei, who reportedly lost his life during an exchange of fire involving a CRPF CoBRA team at Bitiang village in Noney district on 29 July. Naga Village Guard Killed in Exchange of Fire Near Bitiang

A Naga village guard was killed and several others are reportedly missing following an exchange of fire with CoBRA forces near Bitiang at around 6:00 am on 29 July 2026. The deceased has been identified as Lanbimei Riamei , son of Kadirang Riamei , from Longmai Bazar, Noney distrcit, Manipur .  Search operations are currently underway, while additional security personnel have been deployed to the area as efforts continue to locate the missing individuals and assess the situation. JTC Shutdown Begins Amid Fresh Violence in Noney District

Noney, 29 July 2026: An emergency shutdown called by the Working Committee of the Joint Tribes Council (JTC), Manipur, came into force on Wednesday across the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme areas following fresh violence and allegations of attacks involving security forces in Noney district. The shutdown brought traffic to a complete standstill at Kambiron Village along National Highway 37, where private and commercial vehicles travelling from both Imphal and Jiribam were stopped.
