Hmar Inpui Warns Against Attacks on MLAs’ Properties, Seeks Permanent Political Solution
Lamka, Feb 4, 2026: The Hmar Inpui (Hmar Supreme House), Hmarram and Vangai Region, on Tuesday issued a press statement expressing serious concern over the security of elected representatives amid efforts to form a popular government in Manipur.
The apex body said it has received credible reports indicating that certain radical elements may attempt to incite violence by targeting the private properties and residences of Hmar-Kuki-Zomi MLAs, including Shri Ngursanglur Sanate.
In its statement, the Hmar Inpui warned that any attempt to demolish, burn, or vandalize the properties of elected representatives would be treated as an act of aggression against the community.
It further stated that the regions of Hmarram and Vangai would not remain silent spectators if such unlawful acts occur.
The organization said it would take all necessary measures within its communal and democratic rights to protect its leaders and ensure accountability for any provocation.
Highlighting the need for a lasting political settlement, the Hmar Inpui reiterated its commitment to a sustainable and dignified solution that reflects the aspirations and demands of the Hmar-Kuki-Zomi people.
The statement also urged the Government of India to exercise its constitutional authority to expedite a permanent political settlement, stating that peace cannot be achieved through temporary administrative arrangements alone.
According to the organization, a long-term solution is essential to address core grievances and ensure harmony and security in the region.

Kuki Inpi Manipur Rejects BJP Move to Form Popular Govt
Lamka, Feb 4, 2026: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has strongly opposed the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) reported move to form a so-called "popular government" in Manipur, calling the decision disturbing, provocative, and dangerous amid the ongoing fragile law and order situation in the state.
In a press release issued by Janghaolun Haokip, Secretary, Information and Publicity, Kuki Inpi Manipur on Tuesday, KIM said the formation of a popular government at this critical juncture would not bring peace or reconciliation but instead deepen existing divisions and instability.
The apex body of the Kuki tribes alleged that such a political arrangement would be Meitei-centric and incapable of addressing the aspirations and grievances of the Kuki-Zo people.
KIM stated that the move could further embolden what it described as state machinery-driven domination and persecution of the Kuki-Zo community. The organisation reiterated its firm stand that no Kuki-Zo MLA should associate with or lend legitimacy to the proposed government under any circumstances.
The organisation also appealed to elected Kuki-Zo representatives to respect the will and sentiments of their constituents by refraining from joining any such political formation. According to KIM, the present situation demands restraint and sensitivity rather than political maneuvering.
Highlighting the volatile conditions in the state, KIM warned that the formation of a popular government would neither restore normalcy nor heal the deep fractures caused by the ongoing conflict. Instead, it could further inflame tensions and push the state towards greater instability.
KIM further accused the BJP of ignoring ground realities and pursuing a politically and morally illegitimate arrangement. The organisation urged the Central Government to continue President's Rule in Manipur under appropriate constitutional provisions until a just, durable, and acceptable political solution is reached.
The apex body also cautioned that any Kuki-Zo MLA who chooses to join such a government must publicly explain their decision, especially in view of the earlier Guwahati Conclave resolution. It added that such MLAs would be held fully responsible for the consequences of their actions.
KIM warned that if a popular government is formed, it would be compelled to curtail all political activities of any political party in Kuki-Zo areas.

KLA-L Warns Kuki-Zo MLAs Against Joining Manipur Govt
The Kuki Liberation Army-Letkholun (KLA-L), acting in consonance with the collective
will, political resolve, and aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people, finds it imperative to issue
this unequivocal reiteration: no Kuki-Zo MLA has the mandate to participate in the
formation of a Popular Government in Manipur under the present circumstances. The position of non-participation is neither arbitrary nor negotiable. It is a conscious, unified political decision born out of sustained injustice, persecution, and the complete
erosion of trust in the existing administrative and political framework of the State. Any
attempt to undermine or bypass this collective decision amounts to a direct defiance
of the people's will.
In this context, the KLA-L issues a clear and final warning: any Kuki-Zo representative
who chooses to participate in the formation ofa Popular Government shall be deemed
to have acted in betrayal of the collective voice of the Kuki-Zo people. Such individuals
will do so in their personal capacity and without the consent, approval, or moral
authority of the people they claim to represent.
The KLA-L will be compelled to initiate
decisive and uncompromising measures-political, organizational, and disciplinary- against any individual daring to defy the collective mandate.
Furthermore, any untoward developments arising from such participation shall rest
solely and squarely on the shoulders of the participating KukiZo MLAs, who must be
prepared to bear full responsibility for the consequences of their actions. This is a
moment of historic reckoning and the Kuki-Zo people will not tolerate opportunism,
political convenience, or personal ambition being placed above collective dignity, justice, and survival. The KLA-L remains steadfast in defending the political will of the
Kuki-Zo people and calls upon all representatives to act with conscience, courage, and
accountability.

Kuki Inpi Delhi appeals to Kuki-Zo MLAs to refrain
To,
All the Kuki-Zo Hon'ble MLAs
Subject: Appeal urging KukI-Zo MLA's to refrain from participating in the formation of a Popular Government in Manipur – Reg.
Hon'ble Sirs/Madams,
As you are aware, the Kuki-Zo people have endured decades of systemic marginalization within Manipur, culminating in the recent violence that has claimed nearly 300 lives and displaced more than 60,000 people. These tragic events have laid bare the complete failure of the Manipur State Government to protect the lives, rights, and dignity of minority Kuki-Zo communities.
2. The brutal attacks on Kuki-Zo civilians and elected representatives constitute irrefutable evidence that peaceful coexistence within the present political and administrative structure of Manipur has become impossible. Public trust has been shattered, and democracy reduced to a hollow promise.
3. For the Kuki-Zo people, the demand for a Separate Administration in the form of a Union Territory with Legislature is not a matter of political negotiation, but one of survival and constitutional justice. It remains the only viable path to safeguard our land, identity, and political future.
4. In this context, the KID & NCR strongly urges all Kuki-Zo Hon'ble MLAs not to participate, support, or legitimize the formation of any Manipur Government led by the majority community. Any such participation would amount to a betrayal of the collective will and suffering of our people.
5. The world is watching. History will judge the choices made at this critical moment.

Kuki-Zo Council Rejects Manipur Govt Formation Participation
Lamka, Feb 4, 2026: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has once again reaffirmed its firm decision that the Kuki-Zo people will not participate in the formation of the Government of Manipur unless clear written assurances are provided by the State and Central governments on their political demand.
In a press release issued on Tuesday by the Information and Publicity wing of the Kuki-Zo Council, the KZC stated that the decision was first unanimously adopted during the Governing Council meeting held on December 30, 2025, which included representatives of constituent tribes, apex bodies, and regional organisations. The council cited alleged atrocities against the Kuki-Zo people and the enforced physical separation imposed by the Meiteis as the main reasons behind the resolution.
The stand was further reaffirmed on January 13, 2026, during the joint meeting of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) groups, the Kuki-Zo Council, and Kuki-Zo MLAs, popularly known as the Lungthu Meeting, held in Guwahati. The meeting resolved that Kuki-Zo representatives would refrain from joining the Manipur government until the authorities provide a clear and written commitment addressing the political aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people.
The KZC maintained that the Kuki-Zo community has legitimately demanded a separate administration in the form of a Union Territory with a legislature, citing continued physical and social separation. It asserted that under the present circumstances, it would be neither logical nor acceptable for the Kuki-Zo people to join a government formed with those from whom they have been forcibly separated.
The council also clarified that any Kuki-Zo MLA who chooses to ignore the collective decision taken at the Lungthu Meeting would be doing so in an individual capacity, and the KZC would not be responsible for any consequences arising from such unilateral actions.
Urging unity and collective responsibility, the Kuki-Zo Council appealed to all concerned MLAs to respect the collective will, sentiments, and political aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people.

From Football to Taekwondo: Manipur Still Being Kicked?
Earlier Manipur had a footballer as Chief Minister.
He didn't just play football on the field. He treated the people like the ball itself, kicking them left, right, forward and backward with every bad decision.
Now the era has changed.
The footballer has retired, and comes a Taekwondo master as the new CM.
Same people, same ground, only the sport is different.
Yesterday it was dribbling and passing Manipur around; today it may be high kicks and flying flips.
The question is no longer whether Manipur will be kicked, but in which style. #ManipurNews #Manipur #ManipurViolence

Kuki MLA Letzamang Haokip Stands Firm on Autonomy Demand
Songpi, Feb 3, 2026: Kuki BJP MLA Letzamang Haokip has stated that he will not participate in the formation of a popular government or the election of a Legislative Party Leader. In a social media post, Haokip emphasized his commitment to supporting the demand for a separate administration for his people.
Haokip's decision is seen as a reflection of the Kuki community's long-standing demand for greater autonomy and self-governance. The MLA's stance is likely to be seen as a show of solidarity with the community's aspirations.
The Kuki community has been seeking a Kuki state or Union Territory, citing concerns over issues such as land, identity, and development. Haokip's statement is likely to add momentum to the demand, which has been gaining traction in recent times.
Haokip's decision not to participate in the government formation or legislative party leader election is seen as a strategic move to focus on the community's core demand. The MLA's commitment to supporting the separate administration demand is expected to resonate with the Kuki community.

Kuki MLA Paolienlal Haokip Stands Firm on Separate Administration Demand Amid Manipur Govt Formation Talks
Songpi, Feb 3, 2026: Kuki BJP MLA Paolienlal Haokip has emphatically declared that the Kuki community will refrain from participating in the formation of a new government in Manipur unless provided with an unambiguous assurance regarding separate administration.
In a Facebook post, Haokip reiterated the community's demand for a distinct administrative arrangement, citing apprehensions pertaining to safety, security, and dignity. The Kuki community perceives this demand as an inherent entitlement, rather than a mere exercise in political autonomy.
Haokip's stance poses a significant impediment to the BJP's endeavour to establish a government in Manipur, which has been under President's Rule since February last year, consequent to ethnic violence. The BJP is slated to convene today to deliberate on government formation, with Tarun Chugh appointed as central observer for the election of the legislative party leader.

No Infrastructure, No Resettlement: Kuki IDPs Slams Govt Deadline
The Kangpokpi District Internally Displaced Welfare Committee (KDIDWC) has slammed the March 31, 2026 deadline for IDP resettlement, calling it unrealistic and unworkable. The Committee points out that basic infrastructure like schools, hospitals, and roads are missing in proposed resettlement areas, making return impossible.
The KDIDWC says the Chief Secretary's announcement was no surprise, given the lack of viable conditions for displaced families to return. The Committee is demanding that the government prioritise building lifeline roads to key areas like Kangchup, Phailengmol, Khamenlok, and Chingdai, calling it crucial for resettlement.
The ₹3 lakh allocation under SPMAY-G for rehabilitation is deemed grossly inadequate for house construction. The KDIDWC wants this revised so IDPs can rebuild with dignity. They're also seeking release of damage assessment forms, compensation for losses, and transparency in the resettlement process involving community leaders.
Education is another concern, with IDP kids suffering due to lack of student facilities in Kangpokpi district. The Committee is urging the government to allocate funds for schools and educational support.
The KDIDWC stresses that IDPs deserve dignity and respect, and vows to keep fighting for their rights till concrete action is taken. They're calling for adequate funding and a clear, time-bound resettlement roadmap.
