Resilience in Lamka: 3 Kuki-Zo MLAs Honoured
Manipur Unrest: Effigies of Kuki-Zo MLAs Burnt
On February 6, 2026, effigies of three Kuki-Zo MLAs—Mrs. Nemcha Kipgen, L.M. Khaute, and Ngursanglur Sanate—were burned during a mass public rally held at the Wall of Remembrance in Tuibong, Lamka. The protest opposed their participation in the formation of the new Manipur government.
The rally was organised by the ITLF Women Wing and the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR). Protesters expressed strong public resentment, citing the prolonged ethnic violence in Manipur in which about 300–500 Kuki-Zo people were killed, while thousands of houses, churches, and entire villages were burned. During the violence, Kuki-Zo residents were chased out of the Imphal Valley, forcing many to live as internally displaced persons.
A new government was formed in Manipur on February 4, 2026, which included three Kuki-Zo representatives. Mrs. Nemcha Kipgen was appointed as one of the Deputy Chief Ministers, while L.M. Khaute and Ngursanglur Sanate were inducted as members. Their inclusion in the government has triggered widespread opposition among sections of the Kuki-Zo community.

ITAC Affirms Support for MLA Ngursanglur Sanate
Lamka, Feb 5, 2026: The Indigenous Tribes Advocacy Committee (ITAC), Pherzawl and Jiribam Districts, has affirmed that Hon'ble MLA Pu Ngursanglur Sanate is the legitimate and constitutional representative of its jurisdictional areas.
In a press release issued by the Department of Information and Publicity, ITAC, Pherzawl and Jiribam Districts on Wednesday, ITAC stated that a major portion of Pherzawl and Jiribam districts falls under the 55–Tipaimukh Assembly Constituency, making Pu Ngursanglur Sanate the rightful elected representative of the region.
The committee warned that any attempt to threaten, intimidate, or cause harm to the MLA, or to vandalise or damage his properties, would be viewed as an affront to the collective will of the tribal people of Pherzawl and Jiribam districts.
ITAC also appealed to all concerned to ensure that recent political developments do not lead to animosity among tribal communities, while reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the interests of the Hmar, Kuki, and Zomi tribes of Manipur.
TSA Issues Clarification on Motbung Village, Slams Media Misreporting
Imphal, Feb 6, 2026: The Thadou Students' Association (TSA), General Headquarters, has issued a clarification stating that Motbung is a Thadou village and not a Kuki village, strongly rejecting what it described as inaccurate and misleading media reporting.
In a statement released issued by Vicky Thadou, Spokesperson of the Thadou Students' Association (TSA-GHQ) on Friday, TSA said the recent report by The Sangai Express describing Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri L. Dikho's participation in the Intra-Motbung Village Sports Meet as attendance at a "Kuki event" was incorrect and irresponsible.
The association stated that Motbung has always been a Thadou village and that Thadou and Kuki are distinct identities that cannot be interchanged. "Thadou can never represent Kuki, nor can Kuki represent Thadou. Dual identity can never exist," the statement said.
The TSA clarified that Shri L. Dikho's invitation as Chief Guest for the closing ceremony of the Intra-Motbung Village Sports Meet 2026, scheduled for February 7, was finalised by the Motbung Youth Club well before the formation of the current government.
Referring to Shri L. Dikho's earlier visit to Motbung Baptist Church in 2019 during a pre-Christmas programme, the TSA said his relationship with the people of Motbung was based on mutual respect and human connection, not politics.
The association also welcomed Shri L. Dikho on his appointment as Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur on February 4, 2026, and expressed support for the state government's peace efforts following the outbreak of violence in Manipur in 2023.
Calling for calm, the TSA urged all sections not to disturb the sporting event and to respect the mandate of the newly installed popular government as provided under the Constitution of India.

MP K Vanlalvena Seeks Probe Into Mizoram Land Deal
New Delhi, Feb 6, 2026: Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking a central investigation into the alleged misuse of public funds in land acquisition related to Lengpui Airport and Siphir village in Mizoram.
In his letter dated February 6, 2026, Vanlalvena alleged that land acquired by the Mizoram government for the installation of air defence systems by the Indian Air Force was purchased at exorbitant rates, violating provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
The MP claimed that mandatory safeguards under the Act—such as publication of acquisition notices, consultations with village councils, and conduct of Social Impact Assessment studies—were bypassed. He further alleged that around ₹187.90 crore of public money may have been siphoned off through questionable intermediaries, raising concerns of corruption and collusion.
Citing the seriousness of the allegations, Vanlalvena urged the Union government to direct a central investigating agency to conduct a thorough inquiry, ensure accountability, and bring those responsible to justice.
The MP sought the Home Minister's intervention at the earliest, stressing that the matter involves misuse of funds meant for public welfare.

ZSP ENDORSEMENT & SOLIDARITY STATEMENT
6th February 2026: The Zou Sangnaupang Pawlpi (ZSP), General Headquarters, hereby expresses its full and unequivocal endorsement of the Social Boycott declared by the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) against those Kuki-Zo MLAS who have participated in the formation of the Manipur Government in blatant violation of the collectively adopted political resolution dated 13 January 2026 called Lungthu at Guwahati.
ZSP-GHỌ stands firmly with the Kuki-Zo Council and the collective will of the Kuki-Zo people. We strongly condemn any political action that undermines our shared struggle, disregards the immense sacrifices of our people and weakens the united political stand of the Kuki-Zo communities. Any alignment with a Meitei-dominated government in the
absence of a just and negotiated political settlement is a betrayal of our people's cause and aspirations.
In this regard, Zou Sangnaupang Pawlpi (ZSP), General Headquarters declares its total support -tooth and nail - for the social boycott imposed by the Kuki-Zo Council.
We further fully endorse and support the total shutdown scheduled for tomorrow, 06 February 2026, across all Zou-inhabited areas. We call upon all Zou communities, civil
society bodies and well-wishers to strictly observe and cooperate with the shutdown in the larger interest of our people and our collective political future.

KSO Churachandpur Backs Boycott, Calls 24-Hour Shutdown
In a press release issued on February 5, the KSO said the MLAs upheld the demand for Separate Administration by staying away from the government formation process at a time when displacement, insecurity, and institutional betrayal continue to affect the hill districts.
The organisation stated that democratic legitimacy cannot be achieved through participation in governance when communities remain traumatised and constitutional trust has been broken. It added that true leadership is defined by commitment to justice and collective dignity rather than proximity to power.
At the same time, the KSO expressed deep disappointment and anger toward Kuki-Zo legislators who chose to participate in the Manipur Government. It said such actions violated the resolution adopted at the NAMPI Conclave in Guwahati and weakened unity when collective resolve is most needed.
The KSO Churachandpur also announced its full endorsement of the social boycott declared by the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) against MLAs who took part in the government formation.
As a mark of protest and solidarity, the organisation called for a 24-hour total shutdown across Churachandpur district, beginning from midnight of February 6, 2026. The public has been urged to observe the shutdown peacefully, with exemptions for medical emergencies, media, and essential humanitarian services.
The organisation clarified that the shutdown is a democratic expression of protest and not a partisan or vindictive act. It stated that the action serves as a reminder that silence in times of injustice amounts to complicity.
Additionally, the KSO appealed to the public to join a mass rally organised by the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) on February 6, 2026, at 12:30 PM, from Koite Ground to Peace Ground, Tuibong, protesting the participation of Kuki-Zo MLAs in the formation of the Manipur Government.
The statement was issued by the Department of Information and Publicity, Kuki Students' Organisation, Churachandpur District.

Kuki-Zo Council Declares Social Boycott of Kuki-Zo MLAs
The Council stated that, in the absence of a political solution to the ongoing ethnic conflict, the Meitei community and its armed groups remain adversarial to the Kuki-Zo people. It alleged that these groups have been responsible for violence, persecution, and suffering endured by the Kuki-Zo community.
According to the KZC, by joining a Meitei-dominated government, the concerned MLAs have aligned themselves against their own people, disregarding the pain and sacrifices of the Kuki-Zo community. The Council described the act as a deliberate attempt to undermine unity and the collective political position of the Kuki-Zo people.
The KZC announced that the social boycott will apply across all Kuki-Zo areas. It urged the public not to cooperate or associate with the concerned MLAs in any social, customary, or public matters. The boycott will remain in force until the MLAs withdraw from participation in the Manipur Government and realign themselves with the collective stand of the Kuki-Zo people.
TIM: Protect Manipur’s Territorial Integrity, and Disassociate from Kuki Tags
MEDIA RELEASE
Imphal, the 5th February, 2026
Thadou Inpi Manipur congratulates Smt. Nemcha Kipgen on her appointment as Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, marking a historic milestone as the first member of the Thadou Tribe to hold this constitutional office.
While acknowledging her earlier support for the Thadou community, Thadou Inpi Manipur unequivocally states that there is no "Kuki" in Manipur, except for the controversial and unconstitutional Any Kuki Tribes (AKT), which recorded a population of 28,324 in the 2011 Census. Since 3 May 2023, Smt. Kipgen's visible alignment with Kuki-centric narratives has raised serious concerns, particularly where such narratives verge on Kuki separatist and supremacist ideology.
As a Thadou Tribe certificate holder, elected from a General (50–Kangpokpi) seat and not from "Any Kuki tribes (AKT)," Smt. Kipgen must immediately and unequivocally disassociate herself from Kuki organizations, social bodies, and separatist political movements. Any continued association is incompatible with her constitutional role as Deputy Chief Minister.
The Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement clearly safeguards the territorial integrity of Manipur. Given her personal association with the Kuki National Front (KNF)—a UPF group and SoO signatory—she bears an enhanced responsibility to uphold the agreement in both letter and spirit. Any action or statement promoting disunity, separatism, or Kuki exclusivist politics would constitute a serious breach of public trust.
There must be no intimidation, targeting, or obstruction of her presence in Imphal. A Thadou–Meitei community understanding has been established, and Thadous have been able to move freely and fearlessly in Imphal and other parts of the valley. Peace must not be disturbed through misidentification or misrepresentation of identity.
Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha's identity must be stated with clarity: she is Thadou, not Kuki, nor a political representative of Kuki ideology. Smt. Nemcha Kipgen must fearlessly and unequivocally reject Kuki ideology and separatist agendas and fully embrace her distinct Thadou identity within the framework of a united and inclusive, multi-ethnic Manipur.
As Deputy Chief Minister, she is expected to function from Imphal and discharge her duties without ambiguity or parallel political loyalties.
Thadou Inpi Manipur firmly calls upon Smt. Nemcha Kipgen to reject Kuki political identity and commit to:
1. Defending Thadou human rights, particularly against Kuki supremacist forces; and
2. Strict and full adherence to the SoO Agreement, rejecting any interpretation that seeks the fragmentation of Manipur through demands for Separate Administration (SA) or Union Territory (UT).
The phrase "negotiated political settlement within the framework of the Constitution of India" must not be misinterpreted as a provision for the possible disintegration of Manipur state through SA or UT demands. The SoO Agreement within the clause _"to abide by the Constitution of India, the laws of the land, and the territorial integrity of Manipur"_ specifically stipulates that the territorial integrity of Manipur State shall not be disturbed; therefore, any negotiated political settlement must remain fully within this clause of the SoO Agreement.
Her office is constitutional. Her responsibility is public. Her accountability is non-negotiable.

UTC ECLAS Research Meet Invites Bible Teachers in Delhi
Invitation to Bible Teachers
Greetings from the United Theological College, Bangalore.
UTC is conducting a Pan-India research initiative as part of the Equipping Christian Leaders in the Age of Science (ECLAS) project, which involves pastors and theological teachers. This research requires a sample of ten individuals from each category. We also plan to hold a meeting with theological teachers. In light of this endeavour, we seek your cooperation and support in organizing a session at your place.
Manipur: Kuki-Zo MLAs face bounties after joining new government
The document, issued under the letterhead of the "Office of the Village Volunteer, Eastern Zone, Kuki-Zo-Gam," offers substantial financial rewards for the killing of the three politicians. The notice identifies the targeted individuals as:
Nemcha Kipgen: Reward of Rs. 20 lakhs
L. M. Khaute: Reward of Rs. 10 lakhs
Ngursanglur Sanate: Reward of Rs. 10 lakhs
The "To Whom It May Concern" notice, dated February 4, states that rewards will be paid to any individual or group responsible for the deaths of these MLAs. Furthermore, the group has promised to provide "materials or logistical support" to anyone willing to carry out what they describe as a "mission."
The threat appears to be a direct response to the MLAs' decision to join the "popular government," a move that has seemingly caused a deep rift within local factions. The document bears the slogan "In defence of our Ancestral land" and is signed by the "Information & Publicity" wing of the Village Volunteers.
Local authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the authenticity of the letter, but security concerns for the three lawmakers have reached a critical level.
The move to join the new administration was seen by many as a step toward political stability, yet this latest development highlights the extreme volatility and personal danger facing elected officials in the region.
