Vumthang Sitihou, Former General Secretary of the Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC), Pastor Paogou, and Pastor Kaigoulien, as well as the injuring of three others.

NSCN Condemns Killing of Three Thadou Church Leaders

GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF NAGALIM
Ministry of Information and Publicity

PRESS RELEASE

13 May, 2026

The NSCN is deeply shocked and anguished by the ambush and brutal murder of three church leaders belonging to the Thadou Baptist Association, between Kotlen and Kotzim villages, who were returning to Kangpokpi from Churachandpur after attending the TBA Conference at Lamka. The victims were not only unarmed civilians but highly respected church leaders.

We convey our sincere condolences to the bereaved families and pray that they find strength and comfort during this difficult time. The NSCN condemns in the strongest terms such devilish actions and request the authorities to unearth the perpetrators who had committed such unheard-of barbarism.

It is also unfortunate that certain organisations have resorted to casting blame upon others without proper verification, while some may themselves be attempting to exploit the tragedy for ulterior motives at the expense of innocent lives. Such actions only further expose the extent to which certain Kuki organisations are willing to inflame the already volatile situation in the region.

The NSCN reiterates its unwavering stand for peace, mutual respect, and harmonious coexistence among all communities. At a time when tensions remain high, irresponsible accusations and retaliatory narratives will only deepen divisions and prolong suffering.

May the departed souls rest in peace.

Manpur CM condemns the Killing of Kuki Pastors

I vehemently condemn the dastardly terror act of the armed miscreants firing upon a group of civilians this morning between Kotlen and Kotzim areas in Kangpokpi district which resulted in the death of three innocent civilians and injuring four others.

Out of those four injured, three were rushed to Shija Hospitals and Research Institute in Imphal for medical treatment. I along with Deputy Chief Minister Shri Losii Dikho, Home Minister Shri Govindas Konthoujam, MLAs and other concerned officials of the government visited the injured and enquired about their well-being at Shija Hospitals, Imphal West. The State government will bear all medical expenses for the injured and I have directed the authorities to ensure they receive the highest standard of care.

This act of violence is deeply troubling and devastating not only for the families but for the entire state, as it disrupts our path to peace. Our state is gradually moving towards peace, therefore, actions that undermine this collective effort of our people to restore normalcy are unacceptable.

Terrorism and senseless acts of violence that target innocent civilians and threaten peace and humanity have no room in a civilized society. There is no justification in any society for acts of terrorism in all its forms. The entire State and our people stand together against such act of terror and our resolve to fight against terrorism is unshakable.

I am deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of precious lives due to such acts of terrorism. I appeal to all sections of society to uphold peace, show restraint and refrain from emotional responses. Further, I urged people to immediately stop abductions and taking hostage and intimidations on community lines. This can only aggravate the situation. I assure the people that we will use every resource of the State to bring the perpetrators and their handlers to justice.

I pray for the peace of the departed souls and speedy recovery of the injured.

ZUF Condemns Deadly Ambush on Kuki Church Leaders

GOVERNMENT OF THE
ZELIANGRONG UNITED FRONT

Ministry of Information & Publicity

Ref. No. ZUF/F-75/26 Date 13/05/2026

Press Statement

13th May 2026

Condemnation on the Heinous Attack Between Kotzim and Kotlen

The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) vehemently and unequivocally condemns the barbaric ambush and brutal attack carried out on a civilian vehicle between Kotzim and Kotlen, in which three innocent Kuki civilians, including church leaders, tragically lost their lives. This inhumane and cowardly act, allegedly perpetrated by NSCN-IM operatives in the name of “ZUF Kamson,” is an unforgivable crime against humanity and a blatant violation of peace, coexistence, and mutual respect among neighbouring communities.

The Zeliangrong United Front categorically clarifies that there is only one legitimate ZUF, and there exists no such faction as “ZUF Kamson” or any other fabricated nomenclature being maliciously used by NSCN-IM to mislead the public and tarnish the hard-earned image and integrity of the Zeliangrong people. Such deceptive and disgraceful acts are nothing but a calculated conspiracy to instigate ethnic hostility, sow discord, and destabilize the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in Zeliangrong areas.

While the Zeliangrong United Front was actively inviting village authorities, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), church leaders, women leaders, youth leaders, and intellectuals for a crucial meeting aimed at preserving peace, harmony, coexistence, and communal understanding in the Zeliangrong region, NSCN-IM acted in a completely contradictory and provocative manner. The so-called NSCN-IM order dated 02/05/2026 and 04/05/2026 respectively, directing people to abstain from and disregard the invitation extended by ZUF, clearly exposed their malicious intention to obstruct peace initiatives. Such directives were nothing less than direct intimidation, deliberate provocation, and a calculated preparation to wage hostility against the Kuki community, ultimately culminating in today’s tragic and heinous attack.

Targeting innocent civilians, particularly religious leaders and unarmed public commuters, is an act of savagery that deserves the strongest condemnation from every civilized society. The bloodshed of innocent people for political manipulation and communal provocation is utterly reprehensible, inhuman, and unacceptable under any circumstances. Those responsible for this merciless massacre must be held fully accountable before the law and before humanity.

The Zeliangrong United Front has consistently upheld peace, communal harmony, coexistence, and mutual understanding among all neighbouring communities. However, the continued filthy games and provocative tactics of NSCN-IM against the Zeliangrong-Inpui people can no longer be tolerated. We sternly warn NSCN-IM to immediately desist from exploiting the name of ZUF for their ulterior motives and to stop spreading terror and ethnic animosity in the region.

ZUF extends its profound condolences to the bereaved families and prays for eternal peace for the departed souls. At this critical juncture, we appeal to all communities to maintain restraint, uphold peace, and reject every attempt aimed at inciting ethnic hatred and communal violence.

NJCF Condemns Killing of Church Workers in Manipur

Kohima, May 13, 2026: The Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF), Kohima, has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the killing of a team led by Rev. Dr. Vumthang Siltou and three others, who were reportedly ambushed between Kangpokpi and Churachandpur in Manipur.

In a statement titled “Statement of Condolence and Appeal for Peace,” the NJCF said the victims were innocent church workers faithfully labouring for peace and reconciliation in the conflict-torn state of Manipur. The forum stated that their tragic deaths are a painful reminder that violence not only destroys lives but also shatters the hopes of communities longing for healing and peace.

The NJCF strongly appealed to the Kuki, Naga, and all communities to immediately shun violence and work towards restoring peace, stressing that peace is the only way humanity can live under God.

Quoting Bible verses from Matthew 5:9 and Psalm 34:18, the forum said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God,” and added that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

The organisation prayed that the departed souls may rest in eternal peace in the arms of Jesus Christ and extended prayers for comfort, strength, and peace to the bereaved families during this difficult time.

The NJCF further urged society to use the tragedy as a moment for renewed commitment towards reconciliation, unity, and the sanctity of human life. It also prayed that the light of Christ would guide people away from hatred and towards the path of peace.

The statement was jointly issued by NJCF President Rev. Dr. N. Paphino, Vice President Rev. Dr. Vevo Phesao, General Secretary Rev. Moses Murry, and Church Coordinator and Relation Rev. Dr. Hotokhu Zhimomi.
