Lamka, 09 July 2026: The Kuki Human Rights Council (KHRC) has strongly criticised the visit of Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand to Churachandpur by helicopter, alleging that it was facilitated by the Central Government without the free, prior and informed consent of the Kuki people. In a press release, KHRC claimed the visit was not a peace initiative but a political move that could deepen divisions within the Kuki community. It also alleged that the Chief Minister's entry into Kuki areas under armed protection violated the collective rights and aspirations of the Kuki people. CM’S VISIT: PERSPECTIVES
1. The visit of the Chief Minister of Manipur to Senapati and Kangpokpi on 8 July 2026, and his heartfelt appeal for peace to Naga and Kuki leaders, appears to have been made possible by an understanding reached even before the visit commenced.
