October 5, 2025: According to data released by the Union Election Commission (UEC) under the military junta, nearly 40,000 eligible voters are listed for the upcoming first phase of elections scheduled for December 28, 2025.
The election will be held in Hakha, a township under the control of the junta and the Chin National Front/Army (CNF/A), and Te, controlled by the junta and PDF-Zoland. Together, the two townships have 39,899 eligible voters, according to the list released by the UEC.
The UEC's figures show that Hakha Township has 27,475 eligible voters, while Tiddim Township has 12,442.
In comparison, during the 2020 multi-party democratic general election, Hakha Township had a total of 39,696 eligible voters. This means the number of voters for the 2025 election is only 69.20% of the 2020 figure.
Locals report that in Chin State, the armed groups collaborating with the junta to organize the elections include the Chin National Front/Army (CNF/A) in the Hakha District area, and other armed groups active in Teddim Township. The ability to cast votes, residents say, will largely depend on the areas controlled by these armed factions.
