Lamka, October 6, 2025: The Zomi Council has issued a public advisory urging passengers from Zomi areas to refrain from using the helicopter services operating between Lamka and Imphal until further notice.
In a press statement released from its headquarters in Lamka, the Council stated that some individuals, including officials and non-officials, have recently been using the helicopter route to connect to commercial flights at Imphal Airport. Some were also seen encouraging others in Lamka to use the service more widely.
However, the Council clarified that no formal safety assurances have been given by the government, nor has any understanding been reached with public leaders in the Imphal valley to guarantee safe passage for Zomi travellers.
“The route should be avoided until further notice. Our sole concern is the safety and well-being of every traveller,” the statement read. It further warned that anyone disregarding this advisory may be held personally responsible for any untoward incidents that may arise.
The Council appealed to all stakeholders to take note of its concern and prioritize the safety of travellers from the region.
