Lotus Temple Delhi | Photos

The Lotus Temple, located in New Delhiis one of India’s most beautiful and peaceful places of worship. It was completed in 1986 and is a Bahá’í House of Worship, open to people of all religions. The temple was designed by Fariborz Sahba, an Iranian architect, who took inspiration from the shape of a lotus flower, a symbol of purity and peace in Indian culture.

ISKCON Delhi was inaugurated on 5 April 1998 by the former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It is located at Hare Krishna Hills, Sant Nagar, East of Kailash, South Delhi, India

The construction of the temple took about 10 years and cost around $10 million (about ₹70 crores at that time). The funds were contributed by Bahá’í followers around the world. The building is made of white marble from the Penteli mountains in Greece, the same marble used in many famous monuments.

The Lotus Temple has 27 marble petals arranged in groups of three to form nine sides, with nine doors opening into a large central hall that can hold over 2,500 people. There are no idols, rituals, or sermons — only silent prayer and meditation.

The main purpose of the Lotus Temple is to promote unity, peace, and harmony among all faiths, reflecting the Bahá’í belief that “all religions are one.” It remains one of India’s top tourist attractions and a symbol of spiritual unity.

ISKCON Temple Delhi – East of Kailash

The ISKCON Temple in New Delhi, also known as the Sri Sri Radha Parthasarathi Mandir, is a well-known Vaishnav temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and Radharani. ISKCON stands for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, founded by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1966 in New York to spread the teachings of Lord Krishna through the Bhagavad Gita.

ISKCON Delhi was inaugurated on 5 April 1998 by the former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It is located at Hare Krishna Hills, Sant Nagar, East of Kailash, South Delhi, India. Designed by renowned architect Achyut Kanvinde, the temple beautifully blends modern architecture with traditional Hindu style. The construction cost around ₹12 crores, funded by donations from devotees and well-wishers.

The temple houses beautiful idols of Radha-Krishna, Sita-Ram, Lakshman, Hanuman, and Gaura-Nitai. Its main purpose is to promote spiritual knowledge, peace, and devotion through chanting, meditation, and the study of scriptures. ISKCON also conducts Bhagavad Gita classes, cultural programs, and food distribution (prasadam), making it a true centre of love, learning, and spiritual awakening.

Devotees filled the temple, offering flowers and giftspraying, and singing with deep devotion. The priests and disciples actively participated in performing the rituals, creating a truly spiritual atmosphere.

The temple also houses a wide collection of Hindu religious books, scriptures, and other fascinating items that catch the eye.

While visiting ISKCON on 24 April 2025, I bought a copy of the Bhagavad Gita authored by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, for just Rs 320.

Here’s an extract from the newly bought Bhagavad-Gītā.

Bhagavad-gītā is a transcendental literature which one should read very carefully. Gītā-śāstram idam puṇyam yaḥ paṭhet prayataḥ pumān: if one properly follows the instructions of Bhagavad-Gītā, one can be freed from all the miseries and anxieties of life. Bhayā-śokādi-varjitah. One will be freed from all fears in this life, and one’s next life will be spiritual. (Gītā-māhātmya 1)

There is also a further advantage:

gītādhyāyana-śīlasya prāṇāyāma-parasya ca
naiva santi hi pāpāni pūrva-janma-kṛtāni ca

“If one reads Bhagavad-gītā very sincerely and with all seriousness, then by the grace of the Lord the reactions of his past misdeeds will not act upon him.” (Gītā-māhātmya 2) The Lord says very loudly in the last portion of Bhagavad-gītā (18.66):

sarva-dharmān parityajya māṁ ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja
ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucah

“Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear.” Thus the Lord takes all responsibility for one who surrenders unto Him, and He indemnifies such a person against all reactions of sins.

mala-nirmocanaṁ puṁsāṁ jala-snānam dine dine
sakṛd gītāmṛta-snānam saṁsāra-mala-nāśanam

“One may cleanse himself daily by taking a bath in water, but if one takes a bath even once in the sacred Ganges water of Bhagavad-gītā, for him the dirt of material life is altogether vanquished.” (Gītā-māhātmya 3)

gītā su-gītā kartavyā kim anyaih śāstra-vistaraih
yā svayaṁ padma-nābhasya mukha-padma-d viniḥsṛtā

Because Bhagavad-gītā is spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, one need not read any other Vedic literature. If one attentively and regularly hear and read Bhagavad-gītā. In the present age, people are so absorbed in mundane activities that it is not possible for them to read all the Vedic literatures. But this is not necessary. This one book, Bhagavad-gītā, will suffice, because it is the essence of all Vedic literatures and especially because it is spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. (Gītā-māhātmya 4)

As it is said:

bhārataṁṛta-sarvasvaṁ viṣṇu-vaktrād viniḥsṛtam
gītā-gaṅgoda-kaṁ pītvā punar janma na vidyate

“One who drinks the water of the Ganges attains salvation, so what to speak of one who drinks the nectar of Bhagavad-gītāBhagavad-gītā is the essential nectar of the Mahābhārata, and it is spoken by Lord Kṛṣṇa Himself, the original Viṣṇu.” (Gītā-māhātmya 5)

Bhagavad-gītā comes from the mouth of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and the Ganges is said to emanate from the lotus feet of the Lord. Of course, there is no difference between the mouth and the feet of the Supreme Lord, but from an impartial study we can appreciate that Bhagavad-gītā is even more important than the water of the Ganges.

sarvopaniṣado gāvo dogdhā gopāla-nandanaḥ
pārtho vatsaḥ su-dhīr bhoktā dugdhaṁ gītāmṛtaṁ mahat

“This Gītopaniṣad, Bhagavad-gītā, the essence of all the Upaniṣads, is just like a cow, and Lord Kṛṣṇa, who is famous as a cowherd boy, is milking this cow. Arjuna is just like a calf, and learned scholars and pure devotees are to drink the nectarean milk of Bhagavad-gītā.” (Gītā-māhātmya 6)

ekaṁ śāstraṁ devakī-putra-gītam
eko devo devakī-putra eva
eko mantras tasya nāmāni yāni
karmāpy ekaṁ tasya devasya sevā
(Gītā-māhātmya 7)

In this present day, people are very much eager to have one scriptureone Godone religion, and one occupation. Therefore, ekaṁ śāstraṁ devakī-putra-gītam: let there be one scripture only, one common scripture for the whole worldBhagavad-gītā. Eko devo devakī-putra eva: let there be one God for the whole world—Śrī KṛṣṇaEko mantras tasya nāmāni: and one hymn, one mantra, one prayer—the chanting of His name:

Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare /
Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.

Karmāpy ekaṁ tasya devasya sevā: and let there be one work onlythe service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

EKCA-KSO-KWU-SEKYO: JOINT PRESS COMMUNIQUE

24th April, 2025: The Eastern Kuki Chiefs' Association (EKCA), Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) Kamjong District, Kuki Women Union (KWU) Kamjong District and South Eastern Kuki Youth Organisation (SEKYO) strongly condemn the heinous and cowardly act perpetrated upon our peaceful villages of Gampal and Haijang under Sahamphung Block, Kamjong District, Manipur on the 23rd April, 2025, Wherein some miscreants, armed with sophisticated weapons, brazenly stormed the villages in broad daylight and sets homes ablaze and instill fear among innocent residents.

This despicable act of violence is a gross violation of human rights and the use of advanced weaponry in this attack points to a deeeply troubling escalation in the insecurity plaguing the rural areas. It is also criminal, unacceptable and strike at the very core of peace as the two peaceful villages were charred to ashes through no fault of their own.

We call on the relevant security agencies to swiftly investigate this barbaric incident, bring the perpetrators to justice, and take urgent steps to prevent such atrocities from recuring to the two villages and other Kuki villages of Kamjong District.

We asked the perpetrators, who cowardly remained a mute spectators, to come to the table and explain how and why the two villages were set ablazed. We also express our solidarity with the victims and call upon law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift and impartial investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure safety of the people of Gampal and Haijang Village.

United in outrage.

A brief note on Leizangphai village

In 1944 Pu Khaikam set up a dwelling place at the site of the present day Leizangphai village but aborted prematurely. Manji Sahip, the Sub Divisional Officer, Churachandpur wanted to halt at the Leizangphai village site during his return on tour from Thanlon to Churachandpur. But as there was nobody residing at that place he had to pass through Leizangphai and put up at Santing village.

He promised and said, "Leizangphai mun a teeng te Patta kapediing, neehphaah louh gam teng teng tung ah thuneihna kape diing"- (I will issue patta to those who resided at Leizangphai and give the power of authority over those lands which lie beyond nobody could exploit).

With the activities initiated by Ngulzachin of Pamzaal village settlement at Leizangphai began in 1947. Those who assisted him in laying the bedrock of this village were Zamneng, Nengzalam, Khamkai, Tualdong, and Ngulzachin, all hailing from Pamzaal village; Loukam and Louzachin Hangluah from Mongon village.

During that time many wild animals and reptiles infested the Leizangphai forest. Deer, fox, bear etc. and snake like paithon, cobra etc. and fishes were found in plenty. Fish as long as the length of the palm were considered too small to be eaten and they were used as fooder for piglets only.

At the beginning, there was a sort of controversy as to who would be the village chief.
But, eventually by mutual understanding Louzachin Hangluah became the village chief. Leizangphai is located 29 kilometers away from Thanlon Sub-divisional headquarters towards east on the Thanlon - Tipaimukh road.

At first Leizangphai was inhabited by Ngaihte families belonging to Thangsing, Phiamphu, Leivang and Hangluah sub clans. But now, it becomes a cosmopolitan like miniature village inhabited by people belonging to Paite, Gangte, Kuki, Simte and Vaiphei tribes.

After Louzachin Hangluah, alias Chintong died his son Kaizagin became chief. Kaizagin unable to maintain the traditional chieftainship of his father, in 1998 sold his village to Lamzang Singsit who was a resident of Leizangphai village. Thus Ngaihte chieftainship over Leizangphai village came to an end devolving it to a Singson (Kuki) chief.

ANITA KUMARI: INDIAN WOMAN FOOTBALLER

Anita Kumari, a girl from a poor family in Jharkhand, has overcome many hurdles to make it to the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Camp.

Growing up in an impoverished household where her father was a drinker and her mother worked as a laborer, Anita's family could barely afford the basics.

They survived on "mad bhaat," a simple dish of fermented rice. Despite the lack of nutrition, sports equipment, and proper facilities, Anita's passion for football remained strong.

Her journey was far from easy, as her patriarchal community criticized her for playing football, a sport perceived as meant for men. Villagers even resorted to putting glass shards on the field to stop her from practicing.

Yet, Anita never gave up. Her dedication saw her through, and she became one of 33 girls chosen for the national coaching camp in Jamshedpur for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup team.

Anita's story is a testament to perseverance, defying both societal norms and financial struggles to pursue her dreams.

Kashmir terrorists attack: 26 people, mostly tourists, killed in Pahalgam's 'mini Switzerland'

PAHALGAM— Terrorists opened fire at a famed meadow near Kashmir's Pahalgam town on Tuesday (April 22) afternoon, killing 26 people, mostly tourists, in what is the deadliest attack in the Valley since the Pulwama strike in 2019.

The 26 dead included two foreigners and two locals, a high ranking official said without getting into details. The toll is still being ascertained, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said while describing the terror attack as "much larger than anything we've seen directed at civilians in recent years".

The attack, which comes as US Vice President J D Vance is visiting India and just as the tourist and trekking season is picking up momentum, took place around 3 pm, officials said. ~ PTI
