🎉 Reception Held for MMA Champion Mr Thiaumuanlal Guite in Aizawl 🎉

On August 1, 2025, the Zomi Cultural Society, Mizoram, organised a grand reception in Aizawl to honour Mr Thiaumuanlal Guite, a 20-year-old MMA fighter from Kangkap village, a remote area in Churachandpur district, Manipur.

Mr Guite recently rose to fame after winning the F3 Strike Combat Tournament, a respected international MMA event organised by the Persatuan Mixed Martial Arts Kuala Lumpur.

Competing in the flyweight division (52.3 kg – 56.7 kg), he delivered a series of outstanding performances. He defeated Tay Yi Heng in the semi-finals on May 18, and went on to win against Muhammad Yusuf and Nadhir Izzat during the finals on July 27, 2025. His victories earned him the championship title, a prestigious belt, and a cash prize of ₹18.44 lakh.

This proud achievement is a shining example of talent, determination, and perseverance — proving that even youths from remote corners can succeed on the world stage with hard work and discipline.

To every Zo youth around the world — dream big, believe in yourself, and stay committed to your goals. Like Mr Guite, you too can break barriers and bring pride to your people. Your background is not a limitation — it is your strength.

Hmar Inpui Condemns Arrest of Two Innocent Hmar Brothers

PRESS RELEASE
August 1, 2025

Hmar Inpui expresses deep concern and indignation at the arbitrary arrest of two brothers, Thanglienlal Hmar and Lalrosang Hmar—residents of Moinathol village, Cachar District, Assam—by the Assam Police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on July 31, 2025. The brothers, both struggling daily wage earners, have no known criminal background. Thanglienlal Hmar works as a motorboat operator and also serves as an elder in the Independent Church of India.

While NDTV has identified them as suspects in the abduction and murder of three women and three children in Jiribam, Manipur, in November 2024, the NIA, in its press release dated July 31, 2025, formally accused them of being key conspirators in the case. This development comes merely three weeks after the Manipur High Court directed the NIA to submit a status report on the matter.

The circumstances surrounding the arrest raise serious concerns regarding procedural fairness, legal propriety, and the observance of due process. The hasty nature of the arrests—seemingly made under judicial pressure—suggests an absence of credible investigation and reflects a disregard for legal safeguards, particularly for individuals who are citizens of another state.

As Manipur endures its third consecutive year of profound humanitarian crisis, the suffering of the Hmar people—both within and outside the state—must not be compounded by acts of institutional overreach. The continuing marginalization of the Hmar community, especially in the context of the ethnic violence allegedly orchestrated by the Meitei majority, must be addressed with urgency and justice. The rights and dignity of our brothers and sisters living outside Manipur must be equally protected under the law.

This arrest exemplifies a disturbing pattern of state-led harassment, systemic repression, and the erosion of civil liberties. It reflects the broader strategy of criminalizing civil society and undermining fundamental human rights. The targeting of the Hmar people is not an isolated incident but part of an orchestrated political agenda designed to instill fear and suppress legitimate demands for justice and political recognition.

The ongoing collusion between the Manipur Government, state institutions, and security apparatus must cease its inhumane campaign against the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar communities, who continue to seek a peaceful and dignified resolution to their political aspirations.

Hmar Inpui unequivocally demands the immediate and unconditional release of Thanglienlal Hmar and Lalrosang Hmar and urges the authorities to respect and uphold their constitutional rights. Furthermore, we call for an immediate cessation of coercive, militarized tactics employed by the state, and for a renewed commitment to justice, equity, and peace.

ITAC Condemns Arrest of Hmar Civilians in Jiribam

 INDIGENOUS TRIBES ADVOCACY COMMITTEE (ITAC)
PHERZAWL & JIRIBAM DISTRICTS

Motto: Protection of Tribal Land and Rights

STATEMENT OF CONDEMNATION

The Indigenous Tribes Advocacy Committee (ITAC), a body constituted by all tribal CSOs in Pherzawl and Jiribam districts, expresses grave concern and unequivocal condemnation of the arbitrary arrest of two Hmar civilians, namely Mr. Thanglienlal Hmar and Mr. Lalrosâng Hmar, both residents of Moinathol village, by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 31 July 2025 in connection with the alleged incidents in Manipur’s Jiribam district.

This arrest, much like the arbitrary detention of other Kuki-Zomi-Hmar tribals, is yet another stark illustration of selective prosecution and targeted harassment of Hmar tribal innocent civilians under the guise of national investigation. It further exposes the deeply entrenched bias within the central agencies and the judicial mechanisms, including the Manipur High Court, that seem to be operating with impunity and clear partiality in favour of the dominant Meitei community amidst the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur.

The narrative that the arrested Hmar innocent civilians played a “logistical role” in an alleged coordinated killing — without any transparent and independent verification — clearly indicates a predetermined conclusion intended to criminalise tribal resistance while systematically ignoring the heinous atrocities committed by the majoritarian Meitei community against the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar tribals.

ITAC is compelled to highlight the following cases before the law enforcement authorities:

 Where is justice for Mr. David Hmar, whose decapitated body remains a symbol of brutality inflicted by Meitei extremists? What immunity protect Mairembam Romesh Mangang – the beheader of Mr. David Hmar?

 Where is the prosecution of those responsible for the public rape and torture of (L) Zosangkim Hmar — a crime that shook our collective conscience?

 Where are the arrests of Arambai Tenggol leaders, openly leading hate-filled rallies, looting state armouries, and calling for ethnic cleansing?

Instead of upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of all Indian citizens as enshrined in Articles 14, 21 and 22 of the Constitution, the Manipur High Court and the NIA appear to have become instruments of state-sponsored repression, targeting already vulnerable tribal populations while emboldening majoritarian violence.

This pattern of legal apartheid — where one community’s suffering is silenced, and another’s vengeance is served with state machinery — is unacceptable in a democratic republic. We remind the authorities that justice is not vengeance, and arbitrary enforcement of law on selected community and selective enforcement are direct violations of the principle of equality and human rights before the law.

The ITAC further expresses concerns that the securities, investigation agencies including NIA should not act through the pressures put by the Manipur High Court to serve the majoritarian Meitei community. Such actions will further widen rifts between the two rival ethnic groups and will also cause immense hurdles in the ongoing peace process in Manipur.

ITAC, therefore, condemns the arrest of Thanglienlal Hmar and Lalrosâng Hmar as arbitrary, politically motivated, and reflective of a communalised legal process, and therefore, demands the immediate release of the two Hmar innoc8ent civilians as well as all other tribal leaders and civil society members detained without due process or on trumped-up charges and call for an impartial international and judicial inquiry into the systemic and targeted violence against the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar peoples. Let us remember that peace and justice cannot be built on a foundation of institutional bias and selective memory.

Appeal to FNCC to Lift Bandh on Humanitarian Grounds

To,
The President/Secretary
Foothills Naga Co-ordinating Committee (FNCC)

Sub: Earnest Appeal to relax/lift the ongoing bandh/blockage between Kangpokpi and Churachandpur on humanitarian ground.

Dear President/Secretary,

I hope this letter finds you and all the esteemed members and well-wishers of the FNCC in good health and spirit.

I write this in my personal capacity, as a concerned citizen, with deep respect but also with a heavy heart. The unfortunate violence in the state broke out in the state on the 3rd May, 2023, has brought untold hardship and immense sufferings to the countless innocent people across communities. I share in the pain and anguish experienced by those affected during these difficult times. Much of these tragedy and distress—along with the deepening divisions between communities—might have been averted if the concerned authorities had taken timely and compassionate steps at the onset of the crisis. Regrettably, we have witnessed the heartbreaking loss of numerous innocent lives, widespread destruction of property, and the continued erosion of trust among the people.

Despite these challenges, there are now signs of gradual improvement, thanks to the collective efforts of various stakeholders. I trust that the genuine grievances raised by the FNCC have been duly brought to the attention of the appropriate authorities, and I remain hopeful that a fair and lasting resolution will be pursued in the best interest of all communities.

In light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis and in the spirit of unity and compassion, I earnestly appeal to your esteemed leadership to reconsider and kindly lift or relax the ongoing bandh on humanitarian grounds. Let us place humanity above all else and ensure that essential relief and support reach those who need it most.

With utmost respect and hope for peace and reconciliation,

Kuki-Zo Council Slams NIA Over Arbitrary Arrest in Jiribam

 KUKI-ZO COUNCIL
Headquarters: Lamka | Email: kukizocouncil@gmail.com

PRESS RELEASE
KZC/SIP/PR/015 | Dated: 01st August 2025
The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) is deeply dismayed by the press release issued by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 31st July 2025, wherein Thanglienlal Hmar @ Boya has been named and arrested as a key conspirator in the killing of three Meitei women and children in Jiribam in 2024.

We strongly assert that Thanglienlal Hmar is an innocent boatman who has no involvement whatsoever in the said crime. His arrest appears to be arbitrary and unjustified, raising serious concerns about due process and fairness in the investigative approach.

While the KZC appreciates the work of national agencies in upholding law and order, we are compelled to point out the selective nature of justice. To date, no arrest has been made in the rape and murder of Zosangkim, a Kuki-Zo woman, nor in the killing of 10 Hmar volunteers in Jiribam. Similarly, no action has been taken against the person who beheaded David Thiek of Langza, even though his identity circulated widely on social media. The murder of Sub-Inspector Onkhomang remains uninvestigated. Moreover, while those accused in the horrific Naked Parade incident were released, many Kuki-Zo individuals remain imprisoned without resolution.

These continued injustices reflect a deep bias in the justice system. The deep-rooted conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities cannot be addressed through isolated arrests. The fact is, both communities are now physically and emotionally divided. Too much blood has been shed. A lasting solution lies not in selective prosecution, but in a political settlement that formally recognises this separation and secures peace and dignity for both sides.

Key Conspirator in Jiribam Killings Arrested by NIA

Jiribam, July 31, 2025: In a major breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), in coordination with Assam Police, has arrested a key conspirator in the gruesome killing of three women and three children in Jiribam district of Manipur.

The accused, Thanglienlal Hmar alias Boya, a resident of Moinathol Dilkshosh Ghaat in Assam's Cachar district, was apprehended on Thursday. A mobile phone and SIM card were recovered from his possession.

The killings occurred on November 11, 2024, when armed militants abducted the victims from Borobekra area in Jiribam district. Their bodies were later found dumped in the Barak River, sending shockwaves across the region.

Preliminary investigations have confirmed Boya’s active role in both the planning and execution of the crime. The NIA had taken over the probe from Borobekra Police under case number RC-15/2024/NIA/IMP, and continues its investigation to identify other individuals involved.

The arrest marks a significant step forward in delivering justice in one of the most heinous crimes in recent times in the Northeast.
