IN a one-sided knock-out round fixtures of the ongoing 22nd Zou Gal Memorial Shield 2023 played at Lamka Public Ground, Churachandpur, hattrick by Zomi Nam Ni Platinum Cup Top-Scorer Paokhongam Haokip earned HASA (Haopi Area) a 7-1 victory over FC Lamka while The Shepherd's Football Academy also earned quarter-final slot with thumping 6-1 win against UZO Kerith (Northeast Youngsters Football School).

The first match of the day played under an extreme temperature at mid-day, 3 goals by Paokhongam Haokip, golden boot winner of Zomi Nam Ni Platinum Jubilee Cup 2023, and one-goal apiece by Muri Munglunthang, Mangminlen, Paominthang and Thongminlal secured Haopi Area Sports' Association (HASA) a thumping 7-1 victory against FC Lamka to enter quarter-final.

The highly anticipated second match saw The Shepherd's Football Academy (TSFA) taking on another Churachandpur's football academy – Northeast Youngsters Football School, who represented UZO Kerith Unit. Unlike the first match, the match between The Shepherd's Football Academy and UZO Kerith Unit was of fiery one as the two sides played a high-tempo match right from the start. After early box-to-box encounter, it was The Shepherd's Football Academy who went on the front foot when Felix Suankhanmang opened the scoring with a clever low free-kick and moments later, Ghana national Darco Emmanuel scored his third goal of the tournament with a glancing header to put The Shepherd's Football Academy 2-0 up and with goal by Khupliansiam midway through the first-half, TSFA took a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time. The second-half saw UZO Kerith Unit reducing the deficit as Siamneu earned a lifeline few seconds into the restart but any hope of clinching comeback for UZO Kerith Unit faded away when Lianthangkhum restored 3 goals cushion for TSFA in the 51st minute and further goal by Khupliansiam and a late strike by Doununlian capped home a memorable 6-1 win for The Shepherd's Football Academy, that sent them through to the the quarter-final.

The Shepherd's Football Academy will meet Haopi Area Sports' Association (HASA) in the quarter-final on 11th March, 2023 (Saturday).

The highly anticipated knock-out round of the ongoing Zou Gal Memorial Shield 2023 began today and the two matchday fixtures produced a result reminiscent of classical knock-out round encounters as heavyweights New Lamka YC and D.Phailien FC prevailed through to the quarter-final with narrow win at Lamka Public Ground, Churachandpur.


_In today's first knock-out round match between FC Zotal and D.Phailien FC, both sides were unable to produce spark and entertainment early on largely due to intense heat and scorching temperature but the game came to life midway through the first-half when D.Phailien FC skipper Paotinmang Guite finished off a swift counter-attack with him slotting home a rebound after his initial attempt was denied by the FC Zotal goalkeeper. With the start of the second-half, FC Zotal showed better character and a better zeal for goal and after Costa Thangtinlen spurned one glorious chance for FC Zotal, the NEROCA FC striker gifted his side a lifeline when he earned a penalty after being brought down inside the penalty area with Thangminlen Misao making no mistake from the spot kick to put make the score 1-1. After that equalizer, D.Phailien FC raided FC Zotal's goal a number of times and the closest of which was a brilliant free-kick by substitute Joulien Neitham, which struck the crossbar after taking deviation from the FC Zotal goalkeeper and the match ended 1-1. In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, D.Phailien FC goalkeeper Lamgoulian Tungnung made two fine saves to help his side to a 4-3 win that secured them a quarter-final slot._


The day's second knock-out round match between New Lamka YC and ZSP Imphal Block was of dramatic one with New Lamka YC making a bright start but ZSP Imphal Block produced an exciting end to the match. It appeared the game was finished and sealed just inside the opening 22 mintues as double-strike from Basanta Singh and a clinical Siamminthang Valte's finish put New Lamka YC 3-0 up but Singdoulien Khongsai gave lifeline for ZSP Imphal Block with a fine strike in first-half stoppage time. The second-half saw ZSP Imphal Block producing some fine moves in their bid to clinch an unlikely comeback but they were unable to get the breakthrough and after both sides were reduced to  10 men following the dismissal of New Lamka YC's Thanglalven and ZSP Imphal Block's Khan for unsporting behaviour, Vanlalmuon reduced the deficit for ZSP Imphal Block with a 77th-minute stike but it was too late to launch comeback and New Lamka YC emerged 3-2 winners to enter quarter-final.

_New Lamka YC and D. Phailien FC will clash in the quarter-final on 10th March._

Child Tightrope Walker at Marina Beach – A Reflection on Compassion

On 25 February 2023, while walking down toward Marina Beach in Chennai, I passed by, but I stood for a while watching a young girl walk a tightrope stretched across the wide sand. Her mother sat near the other end of the pole, quietly watching and waiting for the few coins that kind onlookers might offer. This is their profession, their daily labour, and their way of surviving in a world that often looks away.

I was reminded of the words from the Bible: “Open your mouth for the voiceless, for the rights of all who are destitute” (Proverbs 31:8, NRSV). It calls us to notice people like this mother and child, whose lives depend on the mercy of strangers.

Some give a coin; many walk away. Yet the child keeps her balance, step by step, as if showing us how courage looks in real life -- quiet, fragile, but full of hope. If you happen to come across such performers in your life, do not simply walk past. They are not begging. They are showing careful skill, courage, and hard work -- something truly worth honouring with a small gift. Even a few coins can carry great meaning.
