Kuki-Chin women dig graves in Chittagong Hills

Chittagong Hills, March 26, 2023:  This may be one of the first times in the history of the world that women are seen digging graves.

In the present situation, due to the misdeeds of the Bangladesh Army, the men of the Bawm and Mro people of the Kuki-Chin community towards the Thanchi area of the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh are unable to live in the village.

That's why the Bangladesh Army arrested two people while digging a grave after the death of an old man in Arthah village of Ruma upazila under Bandarban district of Bangladesh, after which all the men and boys were forced to leave and all of them fled to the forest.

At that time only the girls and old women present there had to dig the grave. Such behavior of the Bangladesh Army has forced the innocent Kuki-Chin people to move towards more violence.

KSO Ccpur Press Statement Against Forest Dept

KSO-CCP debunks claims of Manipur Forest Dept with regards to K. Songjang Village, hamlet of Kungpinaosen

PRESS STATEMENT
24th March, 2023

Kungpinaosen village is a recognized village under SDO Henglep Sub-Division, Churachandpur District with a well define scheduled Boundary of the village. It is a recognized village before the constitution of the fraudulently and dishonestly prepared documents of alleged Churachandpur Khoupum Protected Forest vide notification No.55/10/66-M dated 17.09.1966 in violation of section 29(3) of Indian Forest Act 1927.

The said Kungpinaosen Village is recorded in the following Manner and sufficient supporting Documents under section 72 and 94 of Indian Evidence Act, 1872 are presented here under to justify the false claims of Forest Department: -

The Manipur State Hill Peoples (Administration) Regulation, 1947, Sadar Circle No.3, Sl.No.2, Name of Village: Kungpi, Name of Headman: Tongkhopao

(i) The Manipur Gazette Extraordinary, Published by Authority, No.31-E-14, Imphal, Thursday, August,16 1956 Orders by the Chief Commissioner, NOTIFICATION, Imphal the 10th August, 1956, No. JJ/2/56, & NOTIFICATION, Imphal, 20th July, 1956, No. IJ/2/56.- SCHEDULE CHURACHANDPUR SUB-DIVISION, Sl.No 61, Name of Village: Kungpinaosen.

List of villages having 20 or more tax-paying houses in respect of Henglep Sub-Division, MSD. Sl.No. 54, Name of Village: Kungpinaosen.

(v) The Manipur Gazette Extraordinary, Published by Authority, No.209, imphal, Tuesday, September 22, 2009 (Bhadra 31, 1931) GOVERNMENT OF MANIPUR, SECRETARIAT—HILLS DEPARTMENT, NOTIFICATION, Imphal, the 11th September, 2009, No.15/01/2008-CHA: Churachandpur Autonomous District Council, Sl.No.13, Name of DCC: 2-Leimatak, Sub-Division: Henglep, Name of Constituent Village: 1- Kunpinaosen, No. of Electors: 217.

(vi) The original well-defined Boundary Scheduled of this Village is given below:
Signed by: B.C. Casper, SDO, S.W. on dated 16.9.1926
a) North- Chikhukdung
b) South- Lengpanglok
c) East –Laimaton Chingyang
d) West- Leimatak

(vii) Hill House Tax counterfoil, Sl. No.3726, Village no.43, Name of Village: Kungpinaosen, Name of Headman: Thenkhogin, No. of houses: 37, House Tax: 15/- Per house for the year: 2019-2021, Rs1665/-, date: 10/05/2021.

The demarcation of Churachandpur Khoupum Protected Forest within the schedule Hill Area of Churachandpur District itself is arbitrary and illegal Land acquisition by the Government of Manipur. Hence, the same falls very much within the purview of the Hill Area Committee. Since the Scheduled Hill areas is the subject matter of the administration of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) constituted by Law under the provision of Article 371C of the constitution of India, and as per rule made thereof, the matter should be deliberated by the HAC comprising of the Elected Tribal MLAs, before any decision is taken by the state Government.

Further, it is pertinent to reiterate:

(i) That, the village Chief is the absolute owner-in-possession of the Village no.43 Kungpinaosen. It is a recognized Village under Henglep Sub-Division, Churachandpur District. This Village pays hill House Tax under SDO Henglep Sub-Division, Churachandpur District. He has been settling in this Scheduled village Land since pre-independence of India and before merging of Manipur in the Indian Union.

(ii) That, the village Chief of this Village No.43-Kungpinaosen, wherein as of 10/05/2021; there are 37 nos. of Hill House Tax-Paying Rs 15/-per Houses/Households. The Said Village comes under 2-Leimatak DCC, Churachandpur Autonomous District Council Jurisdiction.

(iii) That, the Churachandpur Khoupum Protected Forest was constituted without proper enquiry and notification and without the knowledge and consent of the affected Village Chief or Land Owners as laid down in section 29(3) of Indian Forest Act. 1927.

(iv) That, it is stated there is no portion of any land, Forest-Land or Waste Land, belonging to the state Government or the Forest Department within the above stated scheduled Hill area of this village, being the Ningthou (Chief) is the ownership in possession of this Village. He is the absolute Land owner-in possession of the said village land. He has been residing in this place for the past many years since their forefathers without any interruption and interference from outside. Everything inside the Scheduled area of this village is inherited and enjoy from his forefather since time immemorial.

(v) It is learnt from the Forest department and very much unfair to found that the existing Rights of this Scheduled Hill Area are affected, which is a gross violation and abused of Chapter IV of Protected Forest, Section 29(3) of Indian Forest Act, 1927, Section 60–64 of the Manipur State Hill Peoples (Administration) Regulation Act, 1947, section 3-8 of the Manipur Hill Areas(House Tax) Act, 1966, read with Forest Rights Act, 2006, Section 25 of Limitation Act,1963, Section 3(f)(g) of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes(Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, Section 141 & 420 & 423 of IPC, Section 72 & Section 94 of Indian Evidence Act, 1872, Article 13(1)(2)(3), 19, 31/300 A, 371C, 366(22), 342 of Indian Constitution, CHAPTER V-Rehabilitation and Resettlement Award, Section 41 of RFCTLARR Act, 2013.

(vi) In AIR 1961, Manipur 21(Judicial Commissioner), it is ruled that Government recognized the rights of the hill villages to enjoy the land within the boundaries of their villages, taking from them in return only the Hill house Tax. Also, in (1995) 3 GLT 617, the Gauhati High Court observed that in Kuki Custom, the chief is the owner of the village and the villagers are permissible possessors. That being the case, the apex court of India as well as High Courts had honored and recognized the land rights of the Hill People of Manipur. So, in this regard, this blatant disregard of the ruling by the government is seen as prejudiced and discriminatory towards the rightful land holding tribal Communities.

(vii) The state Government’s act of initiating a process for the village Chiefs to produce legal documents before the officials of the Forest Department to stake claim of their rights for settlement within the protected forest is nothing but a trap. The truth is that there is no such protected forest as claimed by the Government. It may be reiterated here that the existence or the recognition of villages, whether new or old, are done by the Government. Hence, terming legally established and recognized villages as encroachers is unacceptable, misleading and false accusation.

Hence, the establishment of K. Songjang Village is within the scheduled Boundary of Kungpinaosen Village, but not the within Churachandpur Khoupum Protected Forest. And, the establishment of K. Songjang village falls under the purview of HAC. The declaration of Schedule Hill areas which was clearly specified by the chief commissioner of Manipur, and the demarcation of Scheduled Hill areas for the constitution of alleged Churachandpur Khoupum Protected Forest by the Forest department is purely an encroachment of scheduled Hill areas and violation of section 29(III) of Indian Forest Act, 1927 and various Land Laws by the Forest Department, Government of Manipur. It is also worth pondering to state that, the Extraordinary Gazette Notification of Churachandpur Khoupum Protected Forest vide Ref. No.55/10/66-M (2) dated 17th September, 1996 clearly states excepting (Exclusive of) bonafide Village Patta Lands.

The callosity in the part of Forest Department for their irrelevant statement and their illegitimate procedural for constituting Reserved Forest, Protected Forest should be stop once for all, for the cause of justice, instead of misleading, making false statement and spreading hatred amongst different community.

Issued in Public Interest.

Questions to Prime Minister

Dear Mr. PM @narendramodi Ji,

I have no affiliation to any political party. But as a common man and a tax paying citizen I have few questions for you, while I know they will not reach you but still the constitution of India gives me the right to ask 'em:

1. Why is your party - party in power - The Government not letting the Parliament function. It costs 2.5 Lac per minute to every Tax payer of this Country.

2. How does criticizing you or your government become Anti - India. We are a nation of 140 Crore people. We have the right to criticize you or anyone in the Government on anything or wrong policies - That does not make anyone Anti-India. We don't choose our nation (mostly) but we do have the right to choose our government as per constitution every 5 years.

3. Despite being PM of India you campaign for your party on Public Exchequers money. You are PM of the Nation. Why do you campaign for your party on Tax Payers money, making several visits to poll bound states before elections, disguising under launching schemes. It's our money which is getting swiped for your political gains.

4. You speak to your Australian counter part about attacks on Temples in his Country but turn a blind eye when a Masjid or a Church is vendalised in your own country under your own governance.

The list is really long!!! I do not expect you to read or reply to this!!  While this is the harsh reality!!!

Being Prime Minister of this country, you don't act or behave, one!!! You are just a Prime Promoter of your Political Party!!!

Thanks!!! Jai Hind 🇮🇳

THE LAST TEARS OF ZOUGAAL ~ Hausienmuan Munluo

War having decided upon, the Zogal Salpha's rapidly crossed the "Border" Paldai river in Singngat into Zezaw, the killing field of Zogal, where the Zou legendary warrior Letkhup Munluo of Singngat skinned wild tigers, Lion and the like and fought the Haokip tatara Pu Hemlam Haokip, and the Zou Army were soon carrying all before them.

The British troops were ambushed, harassed, pick-off, booby-trapped and tormented at will by the Zou Armies at Zezaw Hill like the Apache or the Sioux Indians. The British troops they encountered were dispersed with "Suangkhaithaang" and pumpi, Zouthau, bow and Arrow and with the Sword of the heroes.

At length the day battle was won, and the victor Zogal Salphas returned home at Singngat. The command in chief (Gallamkai) Pu Lagou Tawtah and Hangchin went to the great chief Tonghau Munluo to report to their great chief's that the tasks entrusted to them had been successfully accomplished. At this time-the year was about 1918 A.D.

From what may be learned from oral tradition handed down to us by our forefather that day Zezaw battle (and there is not the slightest reason to doubt their essential truth) was one of the greatest Zou battles with the British. But a few generations after our forefather fought in Zogal their legacy had vanished.

Under the new generation it had shrunk to nothing, leaving only the memory of a few names and battles. The modern Zou generation changes the greatness of their struggles into an old man boring stories.

This write-up was not an attempt to study and analyse the Zou wars of independence but an attempt to show to the new generation the superhuman sacrifices made by our ancestor in the killing field of Zogal is worth remembering, and to change the modern generation perspectives toward their sacrifices.

We cannot but remember our indomitable freedom fighters, drawn from all parts of Zogam, who shed their blood so that we, live a life unfettered by the ignoring of Imperialist domination and colonial exploitation. Let us not let the Zogal Salpha's efforts go unnoticed.

SMS for Zogal:
There are psychological moments in life and an insight received in such a moments can change our perspective toward things- history, quality of life and transform for the better, and enriched it. It was peak summer time in 2010. As is and was my wont the first things I do after every meals is check my mobile inbox for message that friends send me, particularly throught the night. There it was, this innocuously simple message which went: "Zogal lai a Ahgawchieng bangtan a sau a bangtan a vanleng leeng e? Zou IAS Question".

Then another message: "Zou napdaw ang kichi chieng a bang a dawng ding e?" A well retrospective messages from  one curious young mind. The sheer simplicity and exhortation of the message settled in my mind, and set me thinking, of Zogal and it's warriors. The sight of half-naked Zou warriors shouting war cried, or the shaking Zou women's and children's swarm before my eyes for a moment. Having absorbed the pregnant purport of the message the first thing I did was forward the message, as to remember, to my benevolent friends. After a while in the day my mobile begin to beep with the sound of an incoming message. The Zou IAS Question may be easy to answer, as, it take my friends 10 or 15 minutes to answer it. One reply: " Zogal lai a ipupa ten vanleeng inntung tan a leeng ding a ahisap uh, Ahgawchieng sauseng lou ding. Zounapdaw lai a hing kou ding mi namdang koima umnailou". A cosmopolitan spirits  answer. Then another messages read: "Zogal lai a vanleeng ipu ten mualtung lah a ana geptho uh, Ahgawchieng sang seng lou ding, Zou napdaw ang kichi chieng a tulai nou a dawta chia dawng ding". Another retrospective message.

What I liked about the SMS is it's sheer simplicity and exhortation messages. The messages speak in honour of those Zogal heroes who have consistently proven their worth. It speaks out in honour of those great chief's and warriors who have fought hard- to retain the right of their forefather and to freed us from foreign grips. Let us in our own small way honour the fighter of the Zou wars of independence. And let us remember the first tears to the last tears of our wars. No doubt, the war was brought to an end on 20th May, 1919, but the last tear's of Zogal was shed on 29th May, 2010.

The last tears of Zogal:
Tonghau munluo, the great chief, in the time of the great warrior Letkhup Munluo, was the great-grandfather I never knew, kept alive only throught my grandfather stories. More than nine decades after he was imprisoned at Imphal for his political beliefs by the British, I was the first (may be) in the family to stand at his burial place marking his fought for freedom, justice and Independence.

I grew up hearing tales of Zogal from my grandfather. When I was quite small, the stories seemed "Fun, full of dark humour". It wasn't until I was old enough that my grandfather revealed the more realistic versions of his narratives. In the summer of 2010, on May 29 I stood on the soil of "Khomunlui", with my grandfather Khupkhanhau ( Chief of Singngat), once called home by my great-grandfather and mothers and mourned them and all those who have been laid and rest there. My grandfather told me, this is the place of Singngat at the time of the British, where the British burned down and killed one innocent young girl.

I could almost imagine my forefather lying there and forgiving the British soldiers who had taken the life of some of the innocent villagers and burn down their houses during the war, then whispering the name of their beloved children children's. I imagine my great-grandfather Tonghau Munluo peering down the mountain admiring the beautiful scenic of the land he fought for his children's, of the land they fought for us. This was a once in lifetime experiences for me. Over 93 years had passed since my great-grandfather fight the British, imprisoned as a political prisoner, as a freedom fighter. Through out those years I never gave up hope that someday my oneself would reconnect these sacred memories with the present. Standing at the place where my forefather once spent their life in Singngat Khomunlui was unbelievable. It was bliss from my ancestor to their great grandson in the present.

I walked around the perimeter of "Khomunlui" that had been the resting place of my forefather, where my grandfather and mother spent their childhood days. Then my grandfather leads us to the North of "Khomun", while he seems to count his steps. After the seven steps may be eight my grandfather stop and pointed the place; "This is where your great-grandfather and mothers and five other from our families rest. In all seven people from our families laid to rest in one tomb." He told us. Then my grandfather speaks out to his father Tonghau and to our ancestor at Khomun, honouring them for their great sacrifices during the war and telling them that the villages, the land they defended with their bloods was now shinning like the North star in the Milky ways. After my grandfather speaks out honors word  to his ancestor, then his voice become low and he started speaking to his father Tonghau alone, begging him to tell him why he left behind when he was still a child. Then something just hit me to keep popping into my head like a recurring Nightmare; "Senpan momnou zuo mel mulou, sinlai ah na e zuo ang pomlou..". I stand listening stupidly to his heavy heart. It was the first time I ever saw my grandfather tears, a tears of the past and the tears of the war.  A tears long to be shed. The last tears of Zogal. He still gets tears in his eyes and a lump in his throat remembering the day when the whole villages sacrifices for our today. With tears in his eyes, he sings an Ode to the gfallen heroes (Sanemla) and dedicates it to all who laid to rest in Khomun.

Remembering the fallen heroes:
In the above paragraph I have briefly reflected one of Zogal heroes my great-grandfather Pu Tonghau Munluo. He and those who have been laid to rest at "Khomun" made grand sacrifies or contribution to the struggle for the liberation of Zogam or made some grand political contribution to our nation. It is an attempt to smother the hearts, to remind the Zou's students that everything we enjoy today is the result of someone sacrifices.

War has been a part of the human experience since the dawn of recorded history, and this unfortunate fact has been reflected in the literature of almost every period and culture. War stories were intended to preserve the history or mythology of conflict between different societies. As a great-grandson of one of the Zogal heroes, I have seen the consequences of inadequate honors pay to our forefather and the hugh price that they pay. And the inadequate recorded story to preserve our history. What we need to ask ourselves today, indeed the question we ought to answer, is whether we have been able to uphold or honors the sons and daughters of our land. Let us have an honest introspection of ourselves. Can we in all honestly say we have all done what we can to honor our fallen heroes, those who took up arms to liberate our land? Like the tears of my grandfather, the last tears of Zogal seems to send us a message;

"Here lies our fallen heroes who gave their life for our today, honour them".

Championship Prize: Rs. 1.5 Lakh

Favourites UKB emerged champions with thumping victory

Jessie Ralte won player-of-the-tournament award, Thangmuanlal Tunglut won Top-Scorer Award, L.Jeson Vaiphei and Seiminthang Haokip

📝 By: Seiminlun Kipgen
March 15, 2023 (Wednesday)
=========

United Khawzim Brothers (UKB) reaped the fruit of their unceasing passion, determination, patience and perseverance, as moments of fine display in few second-half minutes earned them a 5-1 victory over ZYO Zoveng Unit to clinch the title of the 22nd Zou Gal Memorial Shield 2023 played in front of a packed crowd at Lamka Public Ground, Hiangtam Lamka, Churachandpur today.

Today's grand closing ceremony was graced by Shri Jamhemlung Panmei, Hon'ble MLA, Tamenglong A/C; Shri Chinlunthang, Hon'ble MLA, Singngat A/C; Shri Arunkumar Thangjam, Hon'ble MLA, Wangkhei A/C; Shri Manglianthang Zou, Ex-President UZO & Ex-Footballer, as Chief Guest, Functional President, Guest of Honour and Chief Host respectively while the likes of Shri Thangkhosuanmung Guite, Chief of Hiangtam Lamka and various CSO leaders of Churachandpur graced the function as Special Invitees.

Much beyond expectation, today's final match was of spectacular one as both sides played exciting game throughout the match irrespective of what the scoreline suggested. The highly anticipated final match began amidst fierce tempest with both sides starting the match with high intensity and it was ZYO Zoveng Unit who made a brighter start as they took early dominance and just few minutes into the game, Khaiminlun Doungel first tested UKB's goalkeeper L.Jeson Vaiphei with a powerful shot, which was denied but ZYO Zoveng Unit took everyone into surprise when Khaiminlun Doungel made  his second attempt in a span of few seconds and this time, UKB goalkeeper L.Jeson Vaiphei had nothing to do as powerful strike by Khaiminlun Doungel from the edge of the area broke the deadlock for ZYO Zoveng Unit. The goal, however, shifted the flow of the game to UKB's favour as they surged forward in search of the equalizer with the attacking trio of Robinson Khongsai, Lalsiem Chongloi and Seiminthang Haokip, going close to scoring while ZYO Zoveng Unit winger Jessie Lalnuntlung Ralte proved to be a constant threat for UKB with his electrifying pace and midway through the first-half, the match was levelled when Seiminthang Haokip reacted quickest to pounce home a loose ball inside a crowded penalty box and after UKB goalkeeper L.Jeson Vaiphei denied a smart drive by Jessie Lalnuntlung Ralte, Seiminthang Haokip almost struck his second goal of the goal on the opposite goal after an inch-perfect cross by Lalsiem Chongloi's lay-off and the hugely entertaining and evenly contested first-half ended 1-1. A weather-interrupted second-half began with United Khawzim Brothers (UKB) taking control of the game and soon they translated their control with goal as midfielder Seineo Kuki overturned the match to UKB's favour with an unstoppable strike and despite ZYO Zoveng Unit showing huge intent for a comeback, Lamthianlal Vaiphei doubled the lead for UKB in the hour-mark to end any hopes of comeback for ZYO Zoveng Unit and to add more misery to ZYO Zoveng Unit, Seiminthang Haokip added his second goal of the match in the 68th minute and Lamthianlal Vaiphei scored late in the match to complete a 5-1 routing for United Khawzim Brothers.

For playing a key role in UKB's final triumph, Seiminthang Haokip was adjudged man-of-the-final match sponsored by Accelerate Coaching Centre, Churachandpur while Jessie Lalnuntlung Ralte was adjudged player-of-the-tournament for guiding ZYO Zoveng Unit into the final while UKB goalkeeper L.Jeson Vaiphei won the Best Goalkeeper Award with Happy Feet Football Academy starlet Thangmuanlal Tunglut winning the Top-Scorer Award with 8 goals in just 4 games.

Champions United Khawzim Brothers walked away with the coveted Zou Gal Shield along with cash incentive of Rs. 1.5 Lakh while ZYO Zoveng Unit had to contend with a sum of Rs. 80,000/-.
