BREAKING NEWS: Manipur Police attacks

A group of Manipur Police Escort team of the Chief Minister who were allegedly accompanied by Arambai Tengol and United Nations Liberation Front(UNLF) were reportedly attacked at Sinam. The attack is believed to be carried out by Kuki Village Volunteers. 

Jiribam has become a new site of conflict which was otherwise the only district in Manipur that was still relatively peaceful. The Kukis resented the coming of Manipur police and Arambai Tengol as they often burn down Kuki villages on their way as it happened near Moreh. While one injury is reported from Meitei side, there might be more casualties as full details are awaited. There are growing discontentment over Biren Singh in the valley and this attack might give ammunition for those calling Biren to be removed as Chief Minister.

2 students from Nagaland receive scholarship from Taiwan govt

Guwahati, June 9 (Morung Express News): Two students from Nagaland have been selected for the 2024 Huayu Enrichment Scholarship from Taiwan's Ministry of Education.

The duo, Teisovinuo Pienyu and Vimenuo Lhoungu from the Angami community, will go to Taiwan for study trips of 3 months and 9 months, respectively, as part of the scholarship. 

They started their Mandarin learning journey in January 2024 at the Taiwan Education Centre, Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) and sat for the standardised Mandarin Proficiency Test – TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language), receiving their certificate of Band Novice level from Taiwan's Ministry of Education. This made them qualified candidates for the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship, informed by a press release from Kuei-Mi LI, the teacher in-charge at ADBU's Taiwan Education Centre.

To encourage Indian students to learn Taiwan's language and culture, and to boost mutual understanding and interactions between the two countries, the Taiwan government provides the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship, among others, to Indian learners annually, it said. 

As per the release, the scholarship awardees will receive a monthly stipend of 25,000 NTD (New Taiwan Dollar) or approximately Rs. 65,447 for their stay in Taiwan. 

With the recommendation of their Mandarin teacher Kuei-Mi LI, Pienyu and Lhoungu, along with their two Assamese classmates from ADBU's Mandarin class, all received the prestigious scholarship, it added.

Reflecting on her Mandarin learning journey, the release quoted Pienyu as saying that she was grateful that her friend Lhoungu, an ADBU alumna, who made her aware that "Mandarin opens up a whole new world of possibilities."

"From connecting with people across Taiwan, China, and beyond, learning Mandarin offers a gateway to endless opportunities. Whether it's for career advancement, personal growth, or simply enriching my life with new experiences," she added.

She further informed that due to her Mandarin proficiency, she has already secured a job with a Hong Kong-based company, showcasing the real-world value of language proficiency.

It must be noted here that another alumna from the centre, Arentsungla Kichu recently got hired by Taiwan-based Company Foxconn.

How else would the Arambai maintain relevance without creating chaos, especially since they failed to capture polling booths in Inner Manipur? With the next election not until 2027, spreading propaganda and instigating unrest seems to be their only strategy to maintain an image of "MEITEI KHATRE ME HE," despite the presence of the Indian Army, Meitei Commandos and Meitei Police to protect the Meiteis in Manipur.
