We also wish a speedy recovery to the five injured personnel and civilians.

KLA-L: Nambol Ambush Underscores Risks of AFSPA Exclusion in Meitei Areas

Office of the
KUKI LIBERATION ARMY-LETKHOLUN (KLA-L)
Government of Kukiland

PRESS RELEASE

Nambol Ambush Underscores Risks of AFSPA Exclusion in Meitei Areas

A deadly ambush in Nambol, Bishnupur district, tonight has left two personnel of the 33 Assam Rifles dead and four others injured. Unidentified Meitei gunmen attacked the convoy, sparking outrage and grave concerns over security in the region. This incident starkly highlights the potential consequences of the state government's decision to exclude the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from specific jurisdictions within Imphal Valley, notably in Meitei-dominated areas.

The exclusion of AFSPA in these areas has arguably compromised the capacity of security forces to respond to emerging threats and maintain order. By removing the special powers conferred by AFSPA, the state government has engendered vulnerabilities in regions susceptible to insurgent activities.

The Nambol incident is a stark reminder of the potential consequences of this policy shift, which may undermine the efficacy of counter-insurgency operations and destabilize the delicate security balance in North-East India. The selective application of AFSPA, with exclusions in certain areas contrasted against its continued enforcement in others, fosters perceptions of differential treatment, thereby exacerbating inter-community tensions.

Furthermore, the diminution of AFSPA's scope may impede the operational latitude of security forces in executing effective counter-insurgency strategies in affected regions, potentially leading to an increase in militant activities and a deterioration of law and order.

Gunmen Attack Assam Rifles Vehicle in Nambol, two Killed

Imphal, Sept 19, 2025: Unidentified gunmen opened fire on Assam Rifles personnel at around 5:50 p.m. on Friday, targeting their 407 Tata vehicle moving from Imphal towards Bishnupur at Nambol Sabal Leikai, under Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district.

According to reports, two jawans lost their lives in the attack, while five others sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred near Nambol, not far from Imphal airport, in the Meitei-dominated valley region. Notably, the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) has been withdrawn from this area. In contrast, AFSPA remains in force in the hill districts, where central security forces generally face less hostility and are comparatively better received by local communities.

Security has been tightened in and around the region following the attack, and investigations are underway to trace the assailants.

Poor Road Maintenance in Munirka Alleys – A Daily Struggle

New Delhi, September 18, 2025: The condition of roads in Munirka alleys exposes a serious failure of local governance. Even after light rain, these lanes turn into pools of stagnant, foul-smelling water. The photos speak for themselves—broken patches, potholes, and muddy water create an unhygienic and unsafe environment.

These narrow alleys are used daily by hundreds of pedestrians, two-wheelers, and families. When water collects and refuses to drain, it becomes a hazard. People are forced to wade through filth, while bikers risk slipping or accidents. Children and the elderly are especially vulnerable, yet the situation continues without effective solutions.

Munirka is a prominent locality in South Delhi, home to both residents and businesses, but the state of its infrastructure tells a story of neglect. Basic upkeep like filling potholes, fixing drainage, and ensuring cleaner streets does not require massive investment, only consistent attention. Sadly, this attention is missing.

Local authorities and village leaders cannot turn away from this problem. Residents live with these conditions every day, and it is a reflection of poor priorities in governance. Development promises mean little when such a crucial locality is left with filthy, unsafe lanes.

The people of Munirka deserve better. Clean, well-maintained roads are not luxuries but essentials. Authorities must act before these alleys cause more accidents, illness, and frustration. Until accountability is demanded, Munirka’s residents will continue to suffer in silence.

MNF-IM urges Integration of Mizo-Inhabited Areas

Lamka, September 16, 2025: The Mizo National Front - Integration Movement (MNF-IM) has reiterated its demand for the integration of all Mizo-inhabited regions spread across Manipur, Assam, Tripura, and Mizoram. In its official communique, the organization highlighted historical struggles and political neglect that have left the Mizo community divided across different states.

The statement recalled the legacy of the Mizo Zalenna Movement of the 1960s, led by Laldenga, and pointed out that the demand for unification remains unfulfilled despite repeated appeals. The communique noted how past governments, including the Congress, failed to address Mizo aspirations, and accused the present Manipur government of continuing discriminatory practices against Mizo groups such as the Hmar, Kuki, and Zomi.

Citing the May 3, 2023 violence in Manipur as a recent example of the community’s vulnerability, the MNF-IM emphasized the urgency of bringing together all Mizo-inhabited territories under one administrative framework.

The communique also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Mizoram on September 13, 2025, urging him to recognize the sentiments of the Mizo people and take steps towards integration.

The MNF-IM concluded by reaffirming its commitment to pursue peaceful means while rallying support from intellectuals, civil society, and ex-MNF cadres to advance the cause of “Pathian leh Kan Ram Tan” (For God and Our Land).

UPF, KNO Condemn Misconduct in Lamka During PM’s Visit

Lamka, Sept 16, 2025: The United Peoples’ Front (UPF) and Kuki National Organisation (KNO) have strongly condemned a series of unruly incidents in Lamka that coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maiden visit to the town on September 13.

According to the joint press statement, a group of juvenile delinquents vandalized welcome decorations at Pearsonmun, near NH-02, barely 2 km from the town centre. Several were arrested and kept in custody by the police.

On September 14, following the PM’s departure, miscreants attacked Lamka Police Station demanding the release of those detained, leading to stone-pelting on security forces and public disorder. Later, around 1 AM, the house of Khenthang alias Calvin, KNO’s External Affairs Secretary, was allegedly torched at Dorcas Veng, New Lamka.

UPF and KNO expressed deep embarrassment and regret over such actions, calling them “selfish and dastardly.” They urged the community to focus on unity, healing, and resumption of political dialogue with the Ministry of Home Affairs for lasting peace and emancipation from decades of strife.

The organisations appealed to the public to reject divisive actions and maintain peace for the greater good of the community.

“Rather than showing solidarity, such untoward incidents only worsen the wounds of our people who are already suffering in relief centres,” the statement read.
