THREE years have passed since the tragic airstrike in the Anantpa area of Phakant Region, Kachin State, where 69 people were killed in one of the deadliest attacks by the Myanmar military. The incident, which occurred on the night of October 23, 2022, remains a painful memory for survivors and the Kachin community.
According local sources, the military junta carried out airstrikes that struck a local gathering, killing civilians, artists, and members of the Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO). The attack has since been remembered as one of the most brutal massacres following the military coup.
A Kachin artist expressed his sorrow during the anniversary, saying, “In that tragedy, we lost three artists dear to us, including Aura Lee and Zaw Moon (King). Each time I see their artworks, it feels as though the incident happened only yesterday. They died while doing what they loved.”
The Anant massacre stands as a grim reminder of the ongoing violence in Myanmar’s ethnic regions, where civilians continue to bear the brunt of military airstrikes and conflict.

A devastating airstrike by the Myanmar military targeted Kanpetlet town in Chin State this morning, resulting in multiple civilian casualties.
According to local sources, two jet fighters from the Tada-U Airbase in Mandalay Region carried out the attack around 9:25 a.m., dropping bombs on a residential area. Initial reports indicate that four people were killed and about twenty others were injured in the strike.
Residents described the attack as sudden and destructive, leaving homes damaged and people fleeing for safety. Chinland News is currently verifying the extent of the casualties and the full scale of the damage.

The military has indefinitely closed the Puta-O–Myitkyina road in Kachin State from this morning, citing military reasons.
According to a driver on the route, the military council's troops suddenly blocked the road section between Lamon Zup village and Naungnan village in Myitkyina Township. The Puta-O–Myitkyina road serves as the only trade route for the entire Puta-O region.
As a result of the closure, all vehicles travelling from Myitkyina to Puta-O earlier today were forced to turn back at the Tanpharae Gate on the outskirts of Myitkyina.

At least five fighters of the Chin Defence Force (CDF) were reportedly killed by Myanmar’s Military Junta and allied Meitei underground groups — including the UNLF, PLA, and PREPAK — in Kale Township, Sagaing Region, sources confirmed.

According to the GNF statement, the attack claimed two innocent lives — seven-year-old Eli Phiphot Wangsa, a Grade-1 student of Khammoi Mission School, and Eno Khampei Wangsa, 27, Joint Secretary of the Khammoi Students’ Union. Several others, including women, children, and elderly villagers, were reportedly injured.
The Forum termed the assault a gross violation of human rights and international humanitarian law, alleging that it marked the second drone strike on a Naga village this year — suggesting a deliberate targeting of civilians beyond the international boundary.
GNF noted that the strike did not occur deep inside Myanmar, but on “ancestral Naga land,” long before borders were drawn. It criticised the “deafening silence” of the Myanmar government, stating that its lack of response exposes the discriminatory treatment of Naga lives.
The organisation recalled a similar cross-border attack by the Indian Army on 27 September 2017 and expressed concern over what it called a “pattern of impunity.”
Calling for global intervention, GNF urged:
The United Nations and international human rights bodies to investigate and hold India accountable.
The Government of Myanmar to break its silence and defend its territorial integrity.
Civil society and human rights defenders to support an independent international probe.
The Government of India to end military aggression and respect the dignity and rights of the Naga people.
Extending condolences to the victims’ families, the Forum reaffirmed solidarity with the Khammoi community, demanding truth, accountability, and justice.
